Not what I expected

I picked up this book on sale, expecting it to be more about harsh truths about pregnancy, motherhood, and parenting. while there is some of this, the story morphs into a random retelling of bad choices and assaults. However, it's an engaging book and narrated very energetically. I'll likely not listen to it again, but again that's due to it not being what I expected and a bit too much swearing. If you're into hearing a well narrated telling of raw life stories, you'll probably like this book.

Political diatribe veiled behind juvenile humor

About halfway through the book and I am really struggling to finish it. I really want to like it as it's an interesting concept, but the excecution of the story misses the mark and the juvenile humor and political tones are a bit much. Pass on this author.

Good backstory, but drags in spots

loved getting more back stories on the characters, but the story really drags in spots. 3 hours in and struggling to continue with the book.

The performance was pretty good. Probably should have used a younger reader for Emery as he's supposed to be 12, but the reader sounds 28. Overall, the story was a bit weak.

Hard to get past the excessively verbose writing

It's a good story that is delivered like a high school English paper that has been padded for length. Parts of the book are excessively verbose to the point of being distracting from the story.

overall pretty good

entertaining, well presented, and engaging. good character development, though later chapters have a few minor continuity errors from earlier chapters. the ending seems rushed when compared to the lengthy development of the challenges and characters. again, it's a good story and would listen again, though the ending implies what comes next, but leaves the door open for a followup book.

Horrible narration

Good story, but the monotone deep voiced narrator made it a real struggle to finish. It was like listening to a computer telling the story with hardly any inflection.
