Historia
FBI agent Drex Easton is relentlessly driven by a single goal: to outmaneuver the con man once known as Weston Graham. Over the past 30 years, Weston has assumed many names and countless disguises, enabling him to lure eight wealthy women out of their fortunes before they disappeared without a trace, their families left without answers and the authorities without clues. The only common trait among the victims: a new man in their life who also vanished, leaving behind no evidence of his existence...except for one signature custom.

Truly awful narrator
Revisado: 12-17-23
I generally enjoy Sandra Brown’s books. This is the first time I have tried one of her books through audiobook format. I made it until chapter 2 when the drawling drone of the narrator killed the book for me. I changed to a different author and different book. Two days later, I tried again. I am listening as I write this and it is painful and unpleasant. Guess I need to give up and try someone/some other book. I will have to decide whether or not I want to try reading this book via hard copy or digital, or give it up altogether. It’s a shame.
I need to remember the name Victor Slezak so I can avoid any other book he narrates. Did I mention he slurs his words together?

Historia
As an environmental studies major, Allie knows the planet is in trouble - a series of natural disasters recently rocked the northern hemisphere, and species across the globe are going extinct. What Allie doesn't know is that her world's decline is a result of an ancient battle called the Night War - the Norse goddess Nott's crusade to control the weakest of the light realms. And Allie most definitely doesn't know that her existence is the only thing stopping Nott from dragging the earth into total darkness.

Good story, but narration almost killed it for me
Revisado: 11-29-23
While I enjoyed the story, the mix of imagination and Norse mythology was refreshing, the narrator’s mispronunciation of the MMC’s name frustrated me and detracted from my enjoyment of the story. The name issue bothered me enough in the first book to look up how the authors spelled his name. The narrator opted to pronounce Tore (Torr) as Toré (Tor-ray). It gave a book entwined with Norse mythology a distinctly French feel.
I did enjoy the twist on Norse mythology, but the story did seem to drag a bit. It could be the jolt that interrupted the smooth flow of the story every time the narrator mispronounced the MMC’s name that made it seem to drag.

Mispronunciation triggers pet peeves
Revisado: 11-29-23
While I enjoyed the story, the mix of imagination and Norse mythology was refreshing, the narrator’s mispronunciation of Nidavellir and the MMC’s name frustrated me and detracted from my enjoyment of the story. The name issue bothered me enough in the first book to look up how the authors spelled his name. The narrator opted to pronounce Tore (Torr) as Toré (Tor-ray). It gave a book entwined with Norse mythology a distinctly French feel. Then, Nidavellir (sigh). Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and their visit to Nidavellir (Need-a-vell-ir) in the Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, I had an idea that was how the place should be pronounced. Maybe MCU got it wrong. If so, I apologize, but it will always be Need-a-vell-ir in my mind. Every time the narrator pronounced these words/names in a way I felt wasn’t right, my brain would screech to a halt and autocorrect. But, that broke me out of the smooth flow of the story every time. I am only leaving this review because if you never speak up, then problems can’t be identified and fixed.
Otherwise, the story was enjoyable. It made me remember sitting on my grandfather’s lap as he read me stories of Thor, and Asgard, and Odin and the other gods from the “Books of Knowledge”. He gave me a love of mythology, Norse or Greek. This book series nudged those fond memories of early childhood (I was 3-5 years old when he started reading me these mythical tales).

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-16-23
I read this as an e-book years ago and truly enjoyed the whole series. This performance killed the story and the series for me. The person reading has a somewhat pleasant female voice (but a little too sugary for me). However, the main male character could have been a computer-generated, monotone example of the most overbearing, yet boring, male ever to exist in computer land. “I am enraged” had the same flat, lack of feeling, monotone presentation as “I am overjoyed”. Think 1980’s-1990’s stereotype of a computer voice. Bleh!!!! I do NOT recommend!

My name is Arizona Smoke, and I’m the fated soul mate to six elemental dragons. Or, at least I thought I was. We even got married - big white dress, custom suits for my beaus, crazy mother-in-law - but now there’s this girl who claims that she is their rightful soul mate. At first, I hated the hunky assholes who’d dropped into my life unannounced, flipped my world upside down, and dragged me into supernatural society kicking and screaming. But now? I’m starting to fall for them, all six of them.

I listened to the whole book at 2.5x speed
Revisado: 06-09-23
I had bought all three books in the series at the same time. I went through the first two books stopping, changing to a different book, then coming back in hope of finding something redeeming in this last book.
If you like the idea of 6:1 men to women ratio for sex, then these might be the books for you.
Same, if you like the authors plugging their other book series in a completely different book series. It was like paying good money for a book of commercials. That and sex of the sort that sounds painful, not pleasurable. Add in snark, and an abundance of phallus and phallus-related jokes. If you like all of that, then this series is for you.

My name is Arizona Smoke, and I have six husbands. Four sexy plumbers, one electric electrician...and my last husband? Total prick. Our unconventional marriage is almost complete. All I need to do is reconcile with my first love and rescue a man I’ve never met. As if marrying a bunch of supernatural plumbers isn't hard enough, I also have to deal with the fact my biological father and his six wives are still hunting us, stalking us through sex parties hosted by demons and setting traps for us in the middle of supernatural raves. And you thought your family was dysfunctional!

Enough with the Barista jokes!
Revisado: 06-09-23
Besides the FMC continuously whining about “I’m a barista, not a (insert profession here)”. I was definitely turned off by the phallus humor and the commentary about cum.
Then, the authors began plugging their names, pseudonyms, and other book series. In my opinion, in poor taste.
I only kept going because I had already paid for the full series. And, I kept feeling like maybe the story would become more story and less sex and sex-related humor. It probably wasn’t a good sign when I cranked the playback speed to 2.5X the normal speed.

Historia
My name is Arizona Smoke, and I'm the proud owner of a house haunted by my dead Gram, best friend to a cocktail dress loving werewolf, and apparent soul mate to four plumbers who also happen to be elemental dragons. Besides rippling pectorals, tattoos, and … uh, nice, long pipes, the guys also have control of the elements. Supernatural law (whoever heard of such a thing anyway?) dictates that since I stumbled upon the guys in their alternate forms, I have to marry them. All four of them. Oh, and apparently one lousy (okay, awesome) night of sex means that I'm an elemental, too—and no amount of magical penicillin can cure this disease.

I found so much that annoyed me
Revisado: 06-09-23
I found myself getting annoyed with the FMC a lot. I even stopped listening multiple times. But, there was enough storyline, between the snarkiness, puns, whining, and sex that I kept going in search of an illusive something. I finished the first book and kept on to the second (& third, both of which I had already purchased and couldn’t return) still searching for something that gave me a hint of intrigue.
I don’t know whether I would recommend the book to others. I guess it would depend on whether you think sex with one women and four or more men at the same time is sexy. I mean, is it just me or is there a point where multiple men become too much? What is the break point? 3, 4, 6, 8, or 10+ men? I had switched to YA books, because I am just too old for all sex all the time (or, as my mother and grandmother would say around the time they were my age … I am too young for this book!). Obviously, I need more PG books.
Surprisingly, I stumbled across the reverse harem genre through some really excellent YA series. This series is not in any way YA.

Just didn’t grab and keep my attention
Revisado: 03-11-23
Basic shifter romance with miscommunications, misunderstandings, and a mysterious villain thrown into the mix for intrigue. That’s my overall take. I had trouble focusing on the story while it played. It may just be that I listened to it when I was super tired (insomnia), so take my review with a grain of salt. That said, I have no desire to go back when I am more awake to listen to it again and give it another shot. Apologies to the author. It may be that this book just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Fate has torn us apart, and, sometimes, I believe the stars have given up on us altogether. Without my sister, the world seems darker than ever before, and the shadows loom thicker, rising up to answer the call of the Shadow Princess, and changing the face of Solaria for good. I’m afraid we’re almost out of time. Hope is a dangerous thing. It’s the key to us fighting on. But it could be what destroys us in the end. One thing is for certain, I won’t stop until I have been reunited with my other half, and together we will fight to take our crowns. A war is coming.

In a short phrase ….
Revisado: 09-04-22
…have your anxiety meds refilled before you start the book.
The performers do an amazing job of bringing emotion right to the forefront and keep you on edge. I truly enjoy these books. The characters make mistakes. They grow and learn, but still have the ingrained character flaws that caused them to make the biggest mistakes in their lives. However, they are, at the least, aware of these flaws (sometimes it is eventually, not quickly), but that is what makes the characters relatable. There is one character, who will remain nameless here to avoid a spoiler, who in my opinion does a complete 180 twist to their personality … goes from hateful to lovable. The heirs really have entitlement issues. That is one reason I think the Vegas would truly make better rulers. Any character/person who can state (verbatim), “I imagine I had the same kind of childhood as anyone. We stayed in our wing of the house, were raised by nannies, and were given anything we wanted.”, truly have no idea what 85-95% of the populations lives, troubles, and struggles are …so, politics as usual (be it fiction or reality).
I find I can’t seem to put this series down. I think I am on my 5th round straight of listening to these books via Audible. I don’t know if it is the download, multiple apps running at the same time as the book, or a glitch in the recording, but there have been several places where the talking seems to jumble, and jump. This doesn’t happen enough to be too much of an issue. (Maybe that is what Kindle unlimited is really for.)
I would definitely recommend these books for anyone who likes a little romance with their intrigue and suspense. I kind of hate each book ending in a cliffhanger, but what a brilliant way to draw readers into reading the whole series. Can hardly wait for book 8, which I think is the last and will finally have the long anticipated hea. However, book 7 makes me wonder if everyone will get a happily ever after.
One other issue that I can’t tell if it bothers me or just sucks me in is the visions from the stars, the stars cryptic statements when they choose to talk to a character, and other clues that keep you trying to figure out if there have been other hints or clues in the series or if all these things will just finally be linked in or near the end of the series in a “big reveal”.

Dr. Caroline Lambert has a PhD in astro-temporal physics but no clue about matters of the heart. Married to her work, she has built a machine called PORTAL, capable of opening a window into other universes. She believes it is only for observation, so imagine her horror when she finds herself sucked through the window and right into a whole other world - a world that seems stuck in the past, around the time of the Victorian era. Now, Caroline must deal with hoop skirts and elaborate etiquette, not to mention all the dangers of the past.

Eh!
Revisado: 04-25-22
While I have enjoyed most of Evangeline Anderson’s stories, there are some series I wish she would focus on more than the Kindred. I feel like this is a good example of, for lack of a better phrase, a “cookie cutter” historical romance. That is just my opinion on this story alone. I hadn’t intended on purchasing it, but was interested in the Kindred Tales book that follows. At the start of that book, there was a recommendation stating the story, while stand-alone might be better understood if this story was read/heard first.
While I know Ms. Anderson is not a writer by first trade, having read multiple times that her starting career was in Radiology, as I listen to more of her books (and am sure it stops my flow when reading), she has a few grammatical glitches here and there that grate on my nerves, personally. Example: the use of phrases like “it felt realer” when the correct statement should be “it felt more real” and similar phrases. No offense intended. Just watch commercials … they do the same thing.
I have found myself listening to the Kindred Tales more than the Brides of the Kindred series, lately. I credit this to the excellent narration done by Mackenzie Cartwright. The male who narrates the Brides of the Kindred books doesn’t do the best job with the female voices, his whispering “inner thoughts” gives me a “somebody is watching you from the closet plotting your demise” creepy feeling. He could use his normal voice, since most, if not all, “thoughts” are denoted as thoughts either before or after each thought. I appreciate that Ms. Cartwright does not follow the same pattern. I find her voice and speech patterns much more soothing (and don’t have to check under my bed and in my closet for monsters before I try to get to sleep). Also, Ms. Cartwright has a way of bringing a more light-hearted joy to the recurring characters, which matches more closely with the way I interpreted the characters when I read the books. (I’ll give the male Brides of Kindred narrator at least one positive … I like his interpretation of Yipper better.)
Hope this helps. Don’t know if I can update, if needed, after I listen to the next book, “Time to Heal”, as to whether I agree that this book is essential or extremely helpful to tie the story of the next book together.
