Historia
When we use chemical fertilizers, we injure the microbial life that sustains plants and then become increasingly dependent on an arsenal of toxic substances. Teaming with Microbes offers an alternative to this vicious circle and details how to garden in a way that strengthens, rather than destroys, the soil food web. You’ll discover that healthy soil is teeming with life - not just earthworms and insects, but a staggering multitude of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms.

Practical Wisdom for Healthy Soil
Revisado: 04-27-25
This book is packed with valuable information about soil and the microbes that support it. Better yet, it’s highly practical. It offers clear, actionable advice for anyone wanting to create and maintain healthy soil.
I rarely listen to a book more than once, but this will be one of the few I return to. It’s that informative and useful.

Historia
Soil is the unlikely story of our most maligned resource as swashbuckling hero. A saga of bombs, ice ages and civilisations falling. Of ancient hunger, modern sicknesses and gastronomic delight. It features poison gas, climate collapse and a mind-blowing explanation of how rain is formed. For too long, we've not only neglected the land beneath us, we've squandered and debased it, by over-clearing, over-grazing and over-ploughing.

Heavy on Moralising, Light on Soil Knowledge
Revisado: 04-27-25
I approached this book hoping to deepen my understanding of soil and what makes it healthy. Unfortunately, what I found was hours of moralising and environmental commentary, with relatively little practical information about soil itself.
While listeners will pick up a few interesting facts about historical and contemporary mistakes, the book falls short of actually teaching you how to create or maintain healthy soils. In prioritising advocacy over education, the author misses the opportunity to equip readers with real, actionable knowledge.
There are far better resources on Audible for those genuinely wanting to learn about soil.

With Emmy, Grammy, and six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald as Blanche DuBois alongside Carla Gugino as Stella, O’Hara takes a fresh and visceral look at the emotionally charged relationship between these two iconic sisters. Haunted by her past, Blanche seeks refuge with Stella and Stanley (Ariel Shafir) in New Orleans, where she wrestles with the nature of her sister’s husband, her sister’s denial, and her own unraveling mind.

Awful Adaptation With Poor Acting
Revisado: 06-20-24
I came away not having enjoyed or appreciated one minute of this production. Because I knew this was a classic of the American cannon, I went to YouTube to see what other adaptions were like. In doing that I could instantly see where this production misses nuance, character and subtlety.
The acting is over the top and unbearable for the most part, particularly for the characters Blanche and Stanley. Stella is good at times.
Overall, awful. Don't waste your time.

What a journey!
Revisado: 05-07-24
After the initial background to Bonds new mission, this book takes you on a wonderful journey. Ian Fleming's knowledge and experience must have been considerable. Because the characters he has created and the way they interact with the story are wonderful.
The narration adds to the enjoyment of this audiobook. When I first started listening to it, the narration of Martin Jarvis didn't immediately grab me. But as it goes on, you enjoy his narration and appreciate his skill more and more.
If you've seen the movie, you'll recognise parts of the book they've incorporated into it. But thankfully the book and movie are two different things. I love both and I'm glad this book is different because the word Fleming has created in it is a great experience.
Along with Moonraker, this will go down as one of my favourites of the Bond collection. I have not read the remainder of the collection or book 11, On Her Majesty's Secret Service yet.

Enjoyable but a little let down by the production
Revisado: 04-24-24
This was an enjoyable production of Anna Karenina that was a little let down by the production.
The soundscape was very engaging and the acting excellent. However, it isn't a book you can listen to while cooking, driving or doing some other activity. You need to give it your full attention. There are a few reasons why. The first is that at times it is difficult to tell when scenes change because sometimes there isn't any real transition. You also hear the inner dialog of the characters which is one of the interesting things about this book, but at times the switching between characters speaking and other's inner dialog is full on.
People who've read Anna Karenina will likely enjoy this production because they know the story and it will be easier for them to follow. For those like me who haven't read Anna Karenina, I would recommend at least looking up the names of the main characters so you can more easily follow what's happening and who is speaking.

A man wakes up to find himself lying on the ground in a railway station, his mind stripped bare of all recollection. He has no idea how he got there; he does not even know his own name. Entertaining but not a massive recommendation
Revisado: 10-14-22
After starting the last two Ken Follett novels, I was immediately reminded what a skilled and intelligent writer he is. This story features a great plot and is engaging from the beginning.
I have found that some of Ken Follett's novels can feature too many one-dimensional characters. This book does suffer from that problem, but it doesn't detract overly from the story.
The story is let down by the decisions of two characters in particular that just seem too unreal to be believable. Even so it was entertaining, but I would be in a hurry to recommend it.

First half boring, second half excellent
Revisado: 10-14-22
The first half of this book moved very slowly. It's difficult to get engaged in a book like this and stick with it. By contrast the second half keeps you interested. Good plot and some interesting twists.
Not as good as Scrublands.

Three brothers, one death, a fenceline stretching to the horizon. Two brothers meet at the border of their vast cattle properties under the unrelenting sun of outback Queensland. They are at the stockman's grave, a landmark so old, no one can remember who is buried there. But today, the scant shadow it casts was the last hope for their middle brother, Cameron. The Bright family's quiet existence is thrown into grief and anguish. Something had been troubling Cam. Did he lose hope and walk to his death? Because if he didn't, the isolation of the outback leaves few suspects....

The story is slowly peeled back
Revisado: 09-17-22
Another very good book from Jane Harper where she slowly peels back the story.
I didn't like Steve Shanahan's narration of this as much as his narration of Harper's book The Survivors. For a large part of the book the characters speak harshly to each other. I couldn't help but wonder if another narrator could have made the story more enjoyable with a different approach.

I fell in love with this book almost instantly and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to draw it out. But I could not put down the last three hours in particular.
The narrator is outstanding. The locations are evocative. The characters, story and the detail that Follett weaves into it are astounding.
