Historia
For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven.

Unbearable narration! Couldn't get past Chapter 5
Revisado: 01-28-21
The story seems like it would be good, but the narrator was one of the worst I have heard on an Audible book in the last ten years. Everything was said in a breathless and excited voice. There were pauses when there shouldn't have been and no pauses when there should have been. I wish I had listened to a sample before purchasing this title.

Historia
In Magic's Pawn, an ancient age in the history of Valdemar comes to life - an age when the kingdom was ravaged by the ungoverned fury of bandit warlords, ferocious ice dragons, and the wild magic of wizards. A new addition to Lackey's Valdemar kingdom - and her most powerful series to date!

Great story - not so great rendition...
Revisado: 04-13-16
If you could sum up Magic's Pawn in three words, what would they be?
Main Character needs to grow up
Who was your favorite character and why?
Savil Ashkevron. She was strong enough to not care about what others thought.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Gregory St. John?
Gerard Doyle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Would have been if... (see additional comments...)
Any additional comments?
The narrator paused when he shouldn't have and didn't pause when he should have. This could have been editing. Sometimes there was a pause when there should not have been: "he climbed down the back........ stairs" (listener starts to question how anyone can climb down a back and finally the sentence is completed. Oh, okay. He climbed down the stairs!!!).
There were not pauses between separate segments when there definitely should have been. Whenever there was a scene change, the lack of separation created confusion in the mind of the listener.
This broke the flow of the story and made it difficult to fully enjoy.

The Herald-Mage, Vanyel, and his Companion, Yfandes, are alone responsible for saving the once-peaceful kingdom of Valdemar from the forces of a master who wields a dark, forbidding magic. And if either Vanyel or Yfandes falters, both Valdemar and its Herald-Mage must pay the ultimate price.

Great story - rendition was horrible!!
Revisado: 04-13-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Not sure because of the narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Magic's Price?
When the Hawk Brothers tell Vanyel's aunt the truth about Stefan...
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator paused when he shouldn't have and didn't pause when he should have. This could have been editing. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have read this story many times over the last twenty-some years I have always cried at the ending. I just finished the audio book and, even with the lousy pausing and though I know how it ends, I still cried.

The wild magic is taking its toll on the land, and even Vanyel, the most powerful Herald-Mage to ever walk the world, is almost at the end of his strength. But when his Companion, Yfandes, receives a call for help from neighboring Lineas, both Herald-Mage and Companion are drawn into a holocaust of dark magic that could be the end of them both.

If you could sum up Magic's Promise in three words, what would they be?
Bad performance of a great book.
What did you like best about this story?
The story was absorbing and fast-paced. Characters were multi-faceted and engaging.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator paused when he shouldn't have and didn't pause when he should have. This could have been editing. Sometimes there was a pause when there should not have been: "he climbed down the back........ stairs" (listener starts to question how anyone can climb down a back and finally the sentence is completed. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I would have - if the rendition had been better.
Any additional comments?
Narrator had a nice voice but the inappropriate pauses throughout all three books made the stories difficult to follow.

The people of Krynn have known war in past ages. Some are still alive who remember the triumph of good at the conclusion of the War of the Lance. Still more remember the devastation of the Chaos War, which ended the Fourth Age of the world. But now a new war is about to begin, more terrible than any have known. This war is one for the very heart and soul of the world itself.

Great story (so far). Narrator? Not so much...
Revisado: 10-14-14
Would you try another book from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and/or Marieve Herington?
Love the story - hate the narration on this one.
Would you be willing to try another one of Marieve Herington’s performances?
No. Her voice is beautiful but she should have listened to at least a little bit of the previous narrations. I think her pronunciation of "Majere" as "Majerry" is going to make me crazy before I finish this book!
Was Dragons of a Fallen Sun worth the listening time?
Haven't finished it yet. The story is intriguing - I just hope I can survive the narrator's mispronounciations.

So far - no good
Revisado: 11-30-11
I was barely able to make it through the first three chapters. There was no action, nothing to grab my attention and way too much time spent on nonessential details. The narrator had a nice presentation, but overall the entire story just seemed to drag on endlessly.
This is the first book by this author that I have read and I am not sure I will purchase another.
