great collection, monotone narrator

lovecraft's stories are all somewhat similar and can often make the reader feel like they are reading the same story over and over. thats nit a bad thing, but when you combine it with the narrators monotone speedy reading it can be overwhelming. i really would have liked the narrator to do some character work, but sadly none exists. So every story feels like the same character investigating some horror.

uninspired fan service and lackluster performance

the narration is god awful. Wheaton makes all the characters seem whiny and somehow even less defined than how cline wrote them. The fan service in this book, like in rpo, is over the top but unlike in rpo, it adds nothing of interest to the story. I could never shake the feeling that this book was written to be a movie, and after finding out that the movie rights were sold well before it's publication date, I can see that that is clearly the case. if you want a good space sci-fi book about kids saving earth then read or listen to enders game and pass up armada until the movie comes out, then wait till it's on Netflix and watch it there. cline really missed the mark on this incredibly slow tale.
