Historia
Phaedra has been cast to the side all her life: daughter of an adulteress, sister of a monster, and now unwilling bride to the much-older, power-hungry Theseus. Young, naïve, and idealistic, she has accepted her lot in life, resigned to existing under the sinister weight of Theseus’s control and the constant watchful eye of her handsome stepson Hippolytus. When supposedly pious Hippolytus assaults her, Phaedra’s world is darkened in the face of untouchable, prideful power. In the face of injustice, Phaedra refuses to remain quiet any longer.

Love the story, hate the narrators.
Revisado: 04-14-24
I loved this story. It’s heartbreaking and a true testament of female revenge and how women have been treated through the ages. However I loathed the majority of the voice actors on this audio book. It took me so long to finish because I hated listening so much but didn’t want to waste the credit.

Repetitive
Revisado: 03-16-23
There were so many times I had to fast forward because they kept saying the same thing over and over again but worded differently. And the recording were boring. This came off pretentious and idled along the story line. While the story had good moments it felt stale and disappointing when everything happens all at once in the last few chapters.

What was that ending?
Revisado: 12-13-22
A definite slow burn. Christopher is blinded by his biased opinion of Janie. Never once did I ever agree with Christopher and his views on how to handle Janie. Hannah deserved better.

Historia
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

I enjoyed most of this book. I did skip a couple chapters because it does feel repetitive at some points. I enjoyed how this dove in to the detail but it did get tiring at some times.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

The vintage version of How I Met Your Father
Revisado: 06-17-22
Boring, long winded and sometimes felt like it was never ending. Vivian is whiny and plays a role so unrelated. Every time she mentioned sex I rolled my eyes. Poor Angela probably didn’t expect she was going to get a long drawn out story of Vivian’s sex life or her life story. Most of the time I was apologizing to Angela myself during this read. Nothing exciting, nothing ground breaking. This book needs a new title. Blair Brown is spectacular as always, I’m just sorry she had to suffer through this muddled mess of a tale.

A new favorite!
Revisado: 10-03-21
This was suggested by my mother as a good book to read in between the true crime and murder mystery books we read together. I am so happy I did! I loved this book. The incredible whimsy and story telling blew me away. It felt like a movie full of bright colors and beautiful characters the whole time I was listening. It made me laugh and feel like I was apart of the story while I listened. I think the performance of by Daniel Henning really made it more enjoyable and gave a voice to these funny and very full of personality characters. I was actually sad that I had finished it because I wanted more. I can’t wait to read more of TJ Klune’s book. Fantastic!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt like I had been there with Evelyn. I just didn’t like the voice when Monique spoke. It felt like listening to Kristen Stewart tell the story. But Evelyn gripped me and I loved it! Fantastic love story!

Great potential, fell flat.
Revisado: 04-23-21
I bought this because I loved the first book so much. I loved where this was heading in the beginning. But it soon began to become dragging. There was a lot sections that felt boring. A lot of unnecessary filler. I couldn’t wait to finish this book because it took SO long to get anywhere in this story. I ended up fast forwarding through a lot of the end just make it to end. An INCREDIBLY SLOW burn of a book that lost my patience. At some points I zoned out. I will continue to the third book in the series but this was just a disappointment to me.
