I WAS scared Red Rising was dead...
Revisado: 08-10-19
Not anymore.
Dark Age is Pierce Brown’s most gruesome surgery of the reader; vats of Immersive storied adrenaline waterboard us... each chapter leaves us gasping for breath as the meat grinder consumes what we thought possible in this story; we are left with a salute & satisfied tastebuds for victories, losses & revenge long-awaited!
Performance: Tim Gerard Reynolds should be the only narrator. His professional talent paints so much immersive ambience that the reader doesn’t question the mood of the stage.
And it irks me to hear “Cashus”instead of the Greek “Cassius” pronounced over & over again for such a pivotal character... narrator for Lysander.
Ephraim’s narrator I will say, is perfect. No complaints. But nothing.
Audio still needs tweaking, with no fault to the narrators - there is muffled content where listeners will have to go back and read that chapter - that’s just sloppy.
This is, however a step back towards what we knew in quality to the Red Rising trilogy we love so much and promises much more. I will say this: I am more satisfied than I thought I could be.

If you listened to the first Trilogy, you might stop here...
Revisado: 12-07-18
I waited 11 months to post this and I still agree:
Let’s get straight to no spoilers, because I’m just not going there. Here’s my only question though: who chose the narrators for this book? Screw it, another question because the brass needs to hear this: who chose to have multiple narrators??? This audiobook belongs to Tim Gerard Reynolds because he fleshed out Red Rising like Ralph McQuarrie & John Williams fleshed our StarWars... one of these characters who is a high lingo speaking Caucasian sounds like Maurice from the I.T. Crowd. Just so you know, Maurice is an African Englishman and is funny as hell, but that’s not the character Tim Gerard Reynolds made. I know Pierce Brown wrote the books, I’m so grateful for them, but this has happened before with Game of Thrones, when Daenerys Targaryen goes from being elegant for three books and then transforms into a spitting hag. I don’t know who is in charge of this material, but I think you have to find out how to keep consistent with what we’ve grown to trust (Reynolds) and keep it that way. One of these guys breathes so damn hard on the microphone before each sentence I have to start the chapter over and over again because it’s like I’m playing a game online and have to say “hey your hot breathing, step back from the mic.”
Tim on the other hand makes you feel reverent as much as he makes you feel primal. I didn’t have to trick myself in the past books, but it is very difficult in this new audio listen.
I think there’s also even a disconnect between Tim Gerard Reynolds from the past books and this one, I don’t hear the voice of Sevro or Darrow, I hear Tim and that speaks of how less ownership he’s been given on this project, he hasn’t been able to put on the full mask of Iron Gold.
I listened to the Red Rising Trilogy four times in a row without stopping. Perfect flow and I haven’t been emotionally invested in a series like I am with this one so this is surprising that I have this much to say. I will conclude that Iron Gold needs to be read, not listened to and THAT is a damned tragedy.

The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien’s world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part.

Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

An end that makes you begin again.
Revisado: 04-17-17
Every last second leaves you on the undivided edge.
Pierce Brown makes it so easy to love and hate by manipulating the reader in this emotional tunnel vision of the rarity of new science fiction. No film would suffice, only a series like HBO could carry the culture, diversity and gravity of what resides in us current readers.
Tim Gerard Reynolds is immersive, staggering and unwavering in his capacity to capture each character's emotion, tone and angle. Nothing lacking behind this man's dynamic ability in portrait of women, class or culture. All bases covered, Tim hit a home run with this trilogy.
The story of Daro is consistent and delicately evolved. You, the reader, are a blink away from being Daro through this traumatic engagement of friends and betrayal from start to finish. Worth every moment. No disappointment.

Historia
After nearly a decade of brutal warfare, three mighty factions - the enigmatic Protoss, the savage Zerg, and the Terrans, humanity's descendants in the sector - have entered a cease-fire, but the peace is tenuous at best. When the sudden restoration of an incinerated planet is brought to light, tensions erupt. Neutrality swings back to hostility, and old enemies are accused of developing biological weapons to reignite the bitter conflict.

With Sincerity, this was a let down...
Revisado: 11-11-16
This book was written with many technical descriptions for the three races that govern the known galaxy of Starcraft. What it lacks entirely is a love for it. With all the facts within and the immersive depiction written with the very impressive talent of beloved writer, Timothy Zahn, this book was written with that lack of passion and interaction that we've all seen throughout the story in the past.
I recommend this book for those who've never sought out the games and know nothing at all about the StarCraft universe. Timothy Zahn is an incredible writer and does an exemplary job in this book. As a diehard fan, however, I found myself easily distracted and disengaged from this story.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Andy Weir & R.C. Bray straight up owned this story.
R.C. Bray's performance was immaculate. Without flaw or lack of immersion, I was led on paths that my laymen brain could not have gone through without the modern vernacular used by Andy Weir. Thanks for making my life a lot more broad, guys. You freaking rock.

Well-deserved recognition for its simplicity & performance. Lynn Redgrave's performance is perfect for this book. The story is in its scattered-ness a success in immersing us reader/listeners into the widening realm of Narnia.
