Historia
Karigan G’ladheon, running away from school, is traveling through a deep forest when a galloping horse pounds up to her, its rider impaled by two black-shafted arrows. With his dying breath, he tells her he is a Green Rider, one of the magical messengers of the King. Before he dies, he makes Karigan swear to deliver the message he’s carrying, and gives her his green coat, with the symbolic brooch of his office.

I tried...
Revisado: 08-29-23
I really tried to get through this book because the narrator is fantastic, but the main character annoyed me to no end. I think it's just the main characters lack of care for ANYONE with the exception of herself and her father. She acts like an entitled spoiled brat. Yes, she does the right thing in following through with her commitment, but her character is either flat, selfish and childish. I like most of the other characters, but her attitude towards people who help her isn't friendly or kind, even with her own king. Instead of being appreciative towards the characters who have kindly been so generous, she doesn't seem to express her appreciation. I get being suspicious towards people she's never met, but I also feel that she's not suspicious enough around people she should be. She doesn't seem to care that the kingdom is near collapse, she just wants to "go home", even if her home will be destroyed of she doesn't actually communicate things that are obviously important. I don't know, but I was really hoping for an evolution of the mc after all the experiences she's had. She just keeps acting like a ten year old child and pops off to anyone and everyone, especially those that are interested in being her friend. It just feels flat. I pushed through and listened to about 9 hours of the book and after hearing of her indifference and lack of interest over and over, I can't finish it. I don't feel a connection with them character, nor am I interested in her getting what she wants.

Historia
Like nearly one in five people, Matt Haig suffers from depression. Reasons to Stay Alive is his inspiring account of how, minute by minute and day by day, he overcame the disease with the help of reading, writing, and the love of his parents and his girlfriend (now wife), Andrea. And eventually, he learned to appreciate life all the more for it. Everyone's lives are touched by mental illness; if we do not suffer from it ourselves, then we have a friend or loved one who does.

Have depression and can't explain it to others...
Revisado: 12-17-22
... this book can. It's a brilliant book, a brilliant concept. Not a self-help book, but it helps. Not an autobiography, but it's narrated by the author about his own struggles through depression and anxiety. It's in a league of it's own. It kept me interested and curious with his metaphors and descriptions, and even though it's a serious subject, it did what we should all be doing-it made me laugh.
I have grown up in an environment where mental illness was the BIGGEST weakness. Both of my parents were raised by mother's that severe postpartum depression in the '50's and BOTH were committed to a mental institution (the same one, at the same time, but I'm the one that actually discovered this). Due to the trauma my parents experienced in their childhood, and because of the stigma they were fed, they denied that mental illness wasn't something a person could control or fix. They believed (and, I honestly think they still do) that mental illness-depression, suicidal ideation, self harm, anxiety, etc- is just a cover for laziness, selfishness, and attention seeking. I have suffered major depressive disorder and anxiety since 12 yrs of age (I'm now 46) and grew up believing that I was lazy, weak willed, and I just wanted attention. I suffered in silence for so many years. I experienced severe postpartum depression with my first child and had absolutely zero support. Instead of being told that it wasn't I could just change, or that there's help out there, I believed that I was going to ruin my perfect baby boys life because I was just too lazy, and had a negative attitude.
I've had so many of the same thoughts, same experiences that this author describes. I'm so happy that this author had the support and love to make it through those debilitating times because this book (and his other novels) are a balm to my heart and give me inspiration and hope. I do believe that going through depression gives the gift of compassion and empathy in great depth. I believe that depression and anxiety creates a different space in our hearts to create art that move people, that change people's hearts, that speaks to the soul. This is one of those creations. Thank you Mr. Haig, for opening up your heart, for bravely putting this out into the world so people like me have a way to show people who don't understand depression and anxiety what it feels like.

the cliffhanger ending is the worst!
Revisado: 12-09-22
This book is full of sexy time, all the time (which can get a bit overwhelming if you're sensitive to that) but I think it lends a hand to the amount of connection the characters feel for each other. The sex experienced changes how the characters view each other, and inspires growth for the main characters. We all know that that's a part of most of our lives. It happens when we connect with another person, sex creates a different bond between people. This story gets pretty graphic, and for some of us that don't currently have a partner, pretty maddening! But I still believe, in this book, it emphasizes their connection.
Beyond all the smashing, the story line is pretty brilliant. In the first book between Sera and Ash, I was rolling my eyes at the story being recycled from Poppy's story, but it diverged in this book. I was able to learn alot of things that strengthen Poppy's timeline and connect the books more fully. I am extremely irritated at the end though. I mean, I should've known from her other books that she leaves us with a brutal cliffhanger, but REALLY!? I hate waiting for another book because my passion for the world built here ends up kind of fizzling out while I wait. yes, I'm whining. Great series though.

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

Grow up faster
Revisado: 11-23-22
I'm pushing through this book because I really enjoyed the plot and the world, but I find myself yelling at the main character to grow up, learn already and be freaking decent. I'm confused how she went from being an empathetic person, to acting like a spoiled 5 year old child. I'm tired of her internal monologue and her being such a snot to the prince. If I were the prince in this novel I would've left her behind. She has the logic of a 6 year old, and the author repeats things in her monologue over and over. I don't believe the prince is an asshole generally, and I feel sorry for how cold she is to him when he goes out of his way to show her he loves her. She has zero sympathy and she's cruel. She's self righteous and pig headed to a degree that's difficult to relate with. How did she go backwards? What does he even see in her? I don't care if he "kidnapped" her (I think he actually rescued her), if someone stabbed me in the heart and ran away, I'd say "don't let the door hit you on the way out."
I hope there's more evolution of the main character quickly because I don't know if I want to waste my money on any of the other books if this is how it's going to continue to go.

Rowan is visiting her aunt—Winne the hedge witch—in the Welsh countryside, to get back to nature and hone her skills, as well as taking a break from her annoying sisters and enjoying some peace and quiet. However, Rowan soon comes to realise that hedges are a serious business and this isn’t quite the opportunity to rest and escape she thought it might be. Not only that, but mysterious events around the town are causing panic in the secret magical community and cowans—non-magical folk—are starting to take notice.

A nice book for a 12-14 year old girl
Revisado: 07-18-22
This was definitely a novel for preteens. The story was just OK. The narrator is really over dramatic in her storytelling. She always sounded like the story was an intriguing mystery or the characters were excited when speaking just regular lines. I think I would've enjoyed it as a young girl, but it's just too young for me.

I. LOVED. THIS.
Revisado: 07-17-22
This was an amazing and addictive podcast to listen to! The cast, the noises, the story, the whole thing was a great example of why listening to the radio as a family was great entertainment back before TVs! It was brilliant, captivating and the actors were perfect! I now wish there were a million more like this. This was so PERFECT during my road trip that I'm a little bummed it's over so quickly (relative to an audio book). I mean, I absolutely love audio books, don't get me wrong, but this went way above and beyond with the full cast, sound effects and mystery that had me completely absorbed! Please please PLEASE make more of these audiobooks!

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. FANTASTIC, GORGEOUS AND BREATHTAKING
Revisado: 06-01-19
I only stopped listening to this book to sleep. The narrator is extremely talented. It was a one person play, I swear! The whole book felt luxurious to listen to, descriptions of the marsh so thorough I could almost hear the birds. The heartache and wonder of Kya became my own, things I, as many, have experienced. I am not surprised that there is a movie being made of this book. Thank you Delia Owens, you've created a masterpiece.
