Ok! This is my 2nd book from this author. I’m noticing a pattern. She likes to write (talk) ABOUT the subject but refuses to TEACH you anything. Very strange writing style. Monotone. Presumptuous. Overall 1-star. Do not recommend. Seeking refund

This book is well marketed but not a good teacher

This book provides 80% of what not to do, 5% what TO DO, and 15% fluff.
I do not recommend. I would have been better off finding something on Youtube.

Not good...

This book is vaguely interesting...not comparable to the 4 agreements. I've been trying to complete this read for over a year, but it's very difficult to follow---kind of boring. There are some interesting thoughts/quotes. I have less than 3 hours to go, but I'm not sure if I will ever finish book!

Underwhelming

This is about the history of hoodoo. But it does not offer much in terms of the practice. But maybe those things can not (should not?) be sought in a book. I gather that hoodoo, unlike Wicca or some of the other "magic" practices, cannot really be found/understood by reading a book. So don't go reading this book if you want anything beyond history.

Excellent Story

I love this book! I've read it three times. It's fiction but there are a lot of truths in this book. I've learned a lot!

This narrative is clearly written from a European (White Supremacy) lense. From the very beginning (Introduction), I was so disturbed! I do not recommend this!

I can't stop singing it's praises!

I read a lot of books on race and gender, but this book really tackles the issue of intersectionality in ways I haven't read before. It gave me comfort in that I agreed with most of the author's points, But it also really challenged me, and helped me see some of my own blindspots. For instance, I realized that (like the author) I probably have an eating disorder that is connected to my (unrealized) trauma. 🤯
This is not a "feel good" book by any stretch of the imagination! In fact, there were times I had to pause the audio and sit with my thoughts for a beat. But I appreciate her words; I appreciate her work; and I truly believe (know) that this book has the potential to bring healing to those who read it.
It's like a bitter, but efficacious medicine.

This book opened my eyes to a world I knew very little about. I would highly recommend it. I really appreciate the authors for this very important contribution to a topic that is taboo, but shouldn't be!
