Great sequel to a great great story
Revisado: 05-27-23
Pilgrims progress was one of my favorite books as a child. When I found out there was a sequel I went and read it immediately part of the enjoyment of listening to this is hearing again, and feeling the delight that I had before. Take the time to listen to it, you’ll enjoy it.

Fascinating

Shakespeare is hard enough with a play in front of me. I have a hard time following the changes in dialect which have happened in this presentation. It sounds more like Dutch than English.

Listening to The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan can be a bit challenging. Not so with this new version that translates the original archaic language into simple, conversational English, allowing listeners of all ages to easily navigate the most popular Christian allegory of all time. The story chronicles the epic adventure of a man named Christian who leaves his home in the City of Destruction and begins a life-long quest to the Celestial City.

Historia
The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins. But the Shongairi didn't expect the survivors' tenacity. And, crucially, they didn't know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn't stand a chance. Now, a select few blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi homeworld.

Just lovely
Revisado: 03-10-23
This is a very well structured story. I’m wildly impressed. The technique of bringing chapters to an end at the point you can guess where it’s going next is challenging but necessary: it allows a development of a very long timeline with the minimum exposition. Recommended.

In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare stages the workings of love in unexpected ways. In the woods outside Athens, two young men and two young women sort themselves into couples - but not before they form first one love triangle, and then another. The king and queen of fairyland, Oberon and Titania, battle over custody of an orphan boy. Oberon uses magic to make Titania fall in love with a weaver named Bottom, in an effort to distract Titania from the custody battle.

This is fun and funny.
Revisado: 01-16-22
This was one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a couple of hours I have come across. You do need a good command of older English, but if you can read the King James Bible, this won’t be that mysterious. When the peasant characters are talking, part of the humor is that they are seriously misusing almost every long word they use.

Really funny: Done with two straight guys
Revisado: 03-01-21
You may or may not have heard of the short version released before about Tom Stranger. If you get this, you get that, too, with a bonus critique session in which Stranger tries to understand the objections. It pokes fun at almost everything, from Chico State to Donald Trump. The two leads are both straight men, which makes them even funnier. Take some time to listen and laugh. You will feel better. I did.

Historia
In this delightfully lucid and accessible audiobook, America’s foremost philosopher, Mortimer J. Adler, explores 10 errors in the development of modern thought and examines the serious consequences they have in our everyday lives. Some of these mistakes include: (1) The mistake of identifying happiness with a good time rather than with that which is good for us; (2) The failure to differentiate between the perceptual and the conceptual realms of thought, by which the human mind is distinguished from the animal mind; and (3) The failure to acknowledge free will, which leads to the rejection of moral responsibility.

Great book: Appendix broken
Revisado: 10-18-20
I really liked this one. Adler takes pains to explain things clearly, and it makes a big difference in understanding difficult things. Listen to this one! The Appendix fails partway through, but the rest is so good that is minor.
