Historia
The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson.

A great first read and reread
Revisado: 08-08-24
Christie in any form is great. Reading the physical book was good. The Suchet adaptation isn’t true to the original but still one I love and rewatch. But this audiobook has been my favorite. Richard Armitage is always a wonderful reader. His voices are never silly or overdone. Although knowing the story, I found that I caught more listening to the book as far as clues and reasoning than I did with the visual read. So hats off to Christie and Armitage. Well done!

Historia
Meet Agatha Christie, the best-selling novelist in human history. Her writing career spanned six decades, during which time she wrote 66 crime novels, 6 non-crime novels (including romances), and over 150 short stories. Not only was she a phenomenally successful novelist, but she is also the most successful female playwright of all time - her play “The Mousetrap” is the longest-running show in history. As you learn about Christie’s experiences and her storied career, you will better understand how the circumstances of her life shaped her work and vice versa.

A lovely appreciation
Revisado: 08-05-24
Having read quite a bit of biographical material on Christie, I did not mind hearing again, not only because I find Christie endlessly fascinating as a person but because you could relate to the love and appreciation Corrigan weaves through the lectures. Sometimes I hear it’s not the thing to love Christie for this or that reason but I do and won’t apologize for it and neither does Corrigan. Thoroughly enjoyed listening and will again.

Historia
As he was composing what was to become his most enduring and popular book, E. B. White was obeying that oft-repeated maxim: "Write what you know." Helpless pigs, silly geese, clever spiders, greedy rats - White knew all of these characters in the barns and stables where he spent his favorite hours. In The Story of Charlotte's Web, Michael Sims shows how White solved what critic Clifton Fadiman once called "the standing problem of the juvenile-fantasy writer: how to find, not another Alice, but another rabbit hole."
