Historia
Almost anyone who has read or written science fiction or fantasy has been inspired by the work of Michael Moorcock. His literary flair and grand sense of adventure have been evident since his controversial first novel Behold the Man, from the stories and novels featuring his most famous character, Elric of Melniboné, to his fantasy masterpiece, Gloriana, winner of both the Campbell Memorial and World Fantasy awards for best novel.

Boring autobiography
Revisado: 10-07-16
I started listening to this book a few months ago but could not get into it so stopped. I started again a couple of days ago but can only conclude the problem is the book not me. I am on chapter 30 of 55 but I doubt I'll carry on. It is mainly an autobiography with occasional visits to a fictional place / world, whatever, in London. I think even if the autobiographical content was removed it would still be dull.
The only intrigue for me was Alsatia, was it really a fictional place or the authors description of what was going on in his head while an inpatient at a mental health facility!

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Different, thought provoking at times

Really enjoyed listening to this, not my usual but I will now be looking to see what else John Scalzi has written.
Interesting and absorbing with some thought provoking moments.

Interesting twist on the vampire theme.
Revisado: 10-03-12
Interesting, and scary concept if it were true! I enjoyed this book although did find a few of the descriptive paragraphs a bit long winded.
Once I got used to it the narratives from different characters perspectives was an interesting aspect although it did then result in some pretty much word for word repetition making me think I'd hit the back button or a section had downloaded twice.
A lot of people say how scary the book is - well if it were a true scenario then yes, very scary. Maybe I've read too many horror / monster books and am not easily impressed.
Just when it seemed the story was coming to a conclusion there would be another twist and off it would go again - much to my pleasure I have to say.
I would recommend this if your looking for a long but interesting story and like monster / zombie / vampire type stories.
Yes there are descriptions of nazis war camps, death trains and related atrocities.
Yes some of the characters are racist.
The book does not in anyway condone those attitudes or behaviours but it could be hard reading / listening for some people.

Historia
Young detective Anna Travis has been assigned to her first murder case, and it couldn't be a more horrific set of killings. They began eight years earlier; now the body count is up to six. After another body is found, Anna stumbles on a vital piece of evidence which links one man to the killings. However, he's a household name, a much-loved actor, and an arrest would create a media frenzy. And, if he was found to be the wrong man, his career would be finished, as well as Anna's.

Interesting but Anna was irritatingly immature.
Revisado: 09-13-12
I enjoyed the book but was irritated by Anna Travis more than in other books with her character in. Really, she is meant to be a fairly experienced officer by now not some emotional, naive, love sick teenager.
While the story line was predictable I did enjoy listening and will listen to more in the series.

Rushed ending but overall an enjoyable listen
Revisado: 09-24-11
I enjoyed the story but it seemed to be rushed towards the end, as if the author was in a hurry to finish it and start something else. Shortly after I listened to this I listened to Hotwire and found the same rushed ending. Presumably the author feels this adds to the story and provides a climatic end but as I'd worked out who did what etc already for me it just seemed like the author wanted to finish and move on.
