Starts Slow ?

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-06-09

I read some of the reviews prior to ordering this book. I have read many of the other books written by DeMille, and agreed with most of the five star ratings of those books. But, I must say this did not start slow. It grabs you right from the beginning and holds your attention all the way. Another great pairing of De Mille and Brick.

A good book to help you escape

I have read/listen to three of Buckley's books and this is the one I enjoy the most. Funny and possible in today's world. The term "snow balling out of control" is a good describtion of this very funny book. My wife who is not much on listening to books can't put this one in the "off" position. Have fun and this will take you away from some of your troubles.

Terrific Plot Again

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-30-08

I couldn't wait to listen to this book. At the end I had the feeling that in his next book, Mitch Rapp is going to "throw in the towel" due to the policiticians and the PC environment. Mike Nash is probably going to be the next leading character for additional books.

This book had a sub story line in the character of Mike Nash and his home life. Although this added pages and chapters it did not do much for the story line, other than show the dedication of the men and women who really fight the war.

Another good book from Mr. Flynn but is not as focused on the story line as he was in the first or second book.

Still, for the fans of Flynn, the thrill continues.

Comic Relief

If you are sick and tired of the depressing news day in and day out, this book and Buckley's humor is for you. Every time a supreme court openning occurs, in real life, we go through the same game of Advise and Conscent. This book will give you some time to laugh during these hectic news times and the current, as well as past and future, climate in Washington and our "so called leaders" and the increadible distance we have come from the founding fathers concept of government and how it should function.

Listen to this when you are down and need lifting. I am embarking on listening to more books by Buckley (have just started "This is no way to treat a First Lady" - also very funny). He first came to attention, for me at least, on CBS's Sunday Morning show when he was interviewed. Somebody has to be humorous about our "clowns" in DC. Who else has the ability to express wit other than the son of William Buckley. Have Fun !!!!!

Good But Not To His Standard

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-19-07

I have two favorite writers and Vince Flynn is one of the two. I couldn't wait for this segment to come out since I have listened to all of the series in order.

I think all good writers have a point in their writing career when they hit a wall or least a wall they have problems getting over or around. I think Vince Flynn MAY have hit that point with this book. I was somewhat dissappointed in the flow. In his earlier books there was pure story and no extra descriptions of non-plot items. It appeared to me, at least, that he was more flowery on this book than the others. Clancy was like that. Tom Clancy aways had to exceed the number of pages than his previous novel. Story tellers have the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat with pure plot and thrills. Mitch Rapp now has too be a cold, no emotion character due to the story line. I just hope Vince Flynn gets back to his pure story line plot in the next book. Perhaps I was expecting too much. Flynn has made me expect only the best in his books and characters.

A Must Read/Listen

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-23-07

This is by far the most informative book I have read or listen to for the real details of the CIA. The book does not have an agenda but one gets the sense the author does respect the employees who have put their lives on the line as well as those who daily attempted to protect this country.

This book is aimed at the leadership of the agency for the history of the CIA AND our leaders who we have voted for to guide this country. The book is based on documents, interviews and not a personal bias from the author. What the facts are based on is what is so scary, I have become very skeptical about the agency.

I have always defended the agency and assumed that the government (aka CIA)did what it had too do to keep us safe. This book reveals personal agendas by those in power who wanted revenge for the several defeats we as a county have had, even when it is described as less than a defeat.

It is a long book (21 hours) but well worth the time. For those who still have 9/11 burned into your memories, the story behind the story told in this book will leave you very upset.

I have listen to THE COMPANY and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, both relating to the CIA and the abuse of power by those in our government but LEGACY OF ASHES is the best.

The Real War

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-31-07

This is the author's first book and he gets your attention from the beginning. There are several parts/phases which appear to be written by a novice, but the story is terrific. He and his fellow soldiers deserve all the honor this country can provide....no matter what your opinion on this war may be. What he and the others went through should not go un-noticed. His appearance on TV when the book was released worked. I wanted to read more.

We live our lives in comfort and complain of stress while waiting in traffic. These soldiers would switch with us in a heart beat.

Great story of courageousness, honor, and what the next generation can provide. Certainly not what you see at rallies.

Great Read or Listen

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 05-17-07

If you have not read any of Vince Flynn's other books, you should. Attempt to read his first thru the last written. Act of Treason continues in the same well written, straight story line story telling without, what I call taking a side path to describe bits and characters not directly related to Rapp or the story line. All his books are scary because what he describes could or has happened in the war on terror. Flynn's writing style and detail remind me of Tom Clancey without the extra 300 to 400 pages.

Flynn is one of my favorite writers and I hope he continues to deliver one book every 12 - 18 month time frame, even though one a month would be better....just impossible.

Continuation of a Great Story teller

Adrian continues to be a great story teller and he again teams up with my favorite reader. These two make a terrific pair. I just wish there were more books to listen to from this pair.

Another Great Writer

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 04-10-07

I have two or three favorite writers who have the ability to take the reader/listener down a path of a story line without taking side trails and describing items, persons etc not directly affecting the story. This writer is one who takes you on a jurney which is pure story and told in an irish acscent which draws you further into the story. I could not put this book down nor wait until I downloaded the Deadyard and Bloomsday Dead. All three are connected in a fascinating way. Each of the three are narrated by the same person and adds to the continuitiy of the trilogy. Listen to all three (in the order listed above) and see if you don't agree that Adrian McKinty can write a story and narrated by Jerrod Doyle, who I give 1/2 the credit for the realism of the stories due to his Irish inflection.
