I wish I could have given this book a better review, but Macarthur has fallen into step with what I've sadly grown accustomed to with him. His inflated ego has left him cocky and dismissive of his fellow believers. Rather than seeking unity through understanding, he has shown a tendency to make strawman arguments towards those that disagree with him in order to glorify his own intellect. Rather than a biblical examination of the exegesis taking place in the greater charismatic movement, Macarthur has chosen to make each chapter a smear campaign against cherry-picked pastors primarily of the prosperity gospel persuasion. Pastors that most charismatics would agree, preach an unbiblical message. At no point is a humble examination of the scripture and claims made about it brought into this book. Despite growing up listening to nearly every sermon Macarthur has preached, I've found myself having to dust off my feet from his prideful approach to his beliefs. Seek genuine theological work elsewhere.

I'd say this book is great for someone in the beginning of researching how to better help themselves and others with anxiety and trauma based conditions. It offers some good coping skills for anxiety and panic attacks, but it does give much insight into causes of anxiety other than a very surface level explanation.
The audio narration of the book is pretty bad. It sounds like it was recording on an earbud microphone in an echoey room, and she repeatedly stumbles over sentences and continues on rather than editing out those portions. I do like hearing everything from the original author as the harshness of the language can be easily misconstrued if you don't know the tone it was intended to be delivered in.

I'd say the only complaint I would have for this book, is I want it to be a multiple volume set. A very good, albeit short, overview of Christian history and a good heart for what the modern Christians response to it should be.

I bought this book entirely because it was something I thought would brighten my Saturday and it accomplished that. As an academic work it's complete trash, but as a comedy it's pretty top tier.
I will say I am disturbed by how intellectually dishonest this book is. It makes statements about both the biblical text, tradition, common interpretation, and history that are simply incorrect. the author cherry picks biblical references that support there thesis while either ignoring or "discrediting" any verse they disagree with. they also sight quite excessively from the non canonical gospel of Thomas. Accepted by nearly all Christians of every tradition as entirely false scripture due to many clear issues with it's authorship, date of writing, and archaeological history.
Again, if you choose to read this book for a laugh, enjoy. If you expect anything remotely research based, move right along
