Historia
Broken down, and wounded by my emotionally neglectful ex, I wanted someone to tell me I was good enough. Then, I stumbled into a new job with a boss who brought me to my knees - literally. He has me do things a real secretary would never do. Emerson Grant tells me I’m more than just good enough. I’m worthy of his praise. There are a million reasons why I should stay away. The owner of the Salacious Players’ Club is not just my new boss - he’s twice my age. And my ex-boyfriend’s father....I’m a good girl, but I’m falling for the wrong man.

I started reading this book because of a pick from a book club but unless you’re into trashy sex books about BDSM, then not good. I will admit I only read the first few chapters, but it was enough.

Historia
Why are atheists angry? Is it because they're selfish, joyless, lacking in meaning, and alienated from God? Or is it because they have legitimate reasons to be angry - and are ready to do something about it? Armed with passionate outrage, absurdist humor, and calm intelligence, popular blogger Greta Christina makes a powerful case for outspoken atheist activism, and explains the empathy and justice that drive it. This accessible, personal, down-to-earth book speaks not only to atheists, but also to believers who want to understand the so-called new atheism.

I really enjoyed this book. I was surprised to learn about how speaking openly about atheism helps others to wake up even when we’re not aware of the influence. This book is a “must read” for believers and atheists!

Historia
Throughout the course of his ordeal battling esophageal cancer, Christopher Hitchens adamantly and bravely refused the solace of religion, preferring to confront death with both eyes open. In this riveting account of his affliction, Hitchens poignantly describes the torments of illness, discusses its taboos, and explores how disease transforms experience and changes our relationship to the world around us. By turns personal and philosophical, Hitchens embraces the full panoply of human emotions as cancer invades his body and compels him to grapple with the enigma of death.

Very touching
Revisado: 07-08-23
Thank you for showing us part of that intimate and personal Christopher Hitchens. He showed tremendous strength in face of his mortality and yet, also showed his very normal human fragility. I think that the universe lost one of the greatest minds of all times the day he left us. He was inspiring even at the time of his death.

Historia
Seth Andrews wasn't an idiot during his 30 years as an evangelical Christian. He wasn't unintelligent, nor did his IQ shift when he ultimately left religion entirely. He considered himself thoughtful, moral, reasonable, and at least as smart as the average person. In other words, he wasn't an idiot. Yet strangely, he often sounded like one.

Historia
"Forty-four percent of the American population is convinced that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead sometime in the next 50 years," writes Sam Harris. "Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government actually believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population apparently believes this...should be considered a moral and intellectual emergency."

Everyone should listen or read this critical message for a society of people that have become blinded by illogical dogmas. We’re regressing to become tribals and Sam Harris presents thought-provoking messages.

Historia
In this explosive new book, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".

Overall is good

I was expecting a stronger argument to disproof religious claims that morality has roots in a deity or religion. Was a bit disappointed but overall its a good book.

Kind of disappointing
Revisado: 07-24-22
I was expecting real answers to cosmic queries but it’s mostly made up questions and “what if” suppositions and speculation, mostly based on creative imagination. Narration and presentation is outstanding.

Historia

Very interesting
Revisado: 11-25-21
I started listening and couldn’t stop. Hemant presents an open and honest approach in an attempt to understand why the division between the non religious and religious. He promotes a constructive approach to positive dialogue to learn how to agree to disagree. I still think that religion slows down progress and promotes suppression of logic and reasoning and thus not good to encourage its propagation. It’s a great book!!!

Julia Sweeney says she was a "happy Catholic girl" when, one day, she walked into church and signed up for a Bible-study course. "What an eye opener that was!" she says. Equally comedic and insightful, Letting Go of God is Sweeney's brilliant one-woman show about her struggle with her faith.

It is amazing the way Julia Sweeney narrates her deconvertion story. I can relate very well because it was so similar to my own story although not from Catholicism but from the Seventh-Day Adventist dogma. I am so free from the slavery of religion today!!!
