Gets boring and uneventful quickly, couldn't finish. Seems to be more of an opportunistic money grab and/or attempt to defend her father's (Freddy) struggles than an attempt to reveal many insider truths about Donald. There's not that much focus on Donald, and I dont think she spent much time with him. The one-dimensional character assassinations of Donald and Fred Sr., however legitimate they may be, felt tiring and whiny. (I am not a Trump supporter either.) Not worth the money or time.

Very insightful and enjoyable journey through the past few decades of Major league baseball. Made me realize how misinformed the public was on the commissioner's handling of steroids and other issues.

Beautifully written and narrated. Keeps you guessing down to the last page. Only knock is that the legal proceedings are unrealistic and inaccurate at times. 4.5 Stars.

one of the best true crime dramas in recent years. so fascinating to see a normal white suburban kid grow into a drug lord kingpin. great narration, I couldn't put it down.

Compelling at times but lacked closure and authority

I think the best true crime novels are those authored by people who were directly involved in the case or otherwise have an insider‘s perspective. (Helter Skelter, written by the prosecutor, for example.). I struggled with this book because the author was not directly involved and didn’t know much outside of what could be scraped from the public domain. There was a lack of expertise and authority. She was essentially a blogger with lots of free time. There’s also a lack of closure insofar as the author never got close to finding the killer (this isn’t meant as a spoiler; we know this from all of the recent media in connection with the police finally finding the suspect.)

On the plus side, the book is well written and the story is well told, although the timeline bounces around enough that it can be hard to follow.

Overall, commendable effort but not a memorable true crime novel. I would attribute most of the book’s success to the fact that it apparently renewed interest in finding the killer, and the police now have their suspect. This didn’t really make the book more enjoyable of a read, though.
