I liked the characters- the setting. The conflicts were relatable. I read all the Barbary Lane books. Maupin creates a great world and lets you inhabit the characters.

I love the characters and the conflicts they have to endure/solve/endure. The relationship between Strike and Robin has so much promise you can’t help rooting for them to get together. Can’t wait for the next installment …🙏

This book delivered on every level. This book is about a literary editor who discovers a forbidden book off the slush pile in a renowned publishing house. The book takes place in the nearby rural town -Looking Glass lake - where she had grown up. She is sent there to talk to the author and get permission to publish book but ends up reconnecting with the family and place she had once escaped. It’s a book within a book and both tales are riveting. The characters, the world and the unexpected plot twists keep the reader glued until the last word of the story.
