Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

The King
Revisado: 11-30-22
Steven Pacey is a God among men. Joe Abercrombie is amazing, don't get me wrong, but Pacey is truly the star of the show here.
That being said:
Say one thing for The Blade Itself,
Say it's the beginning of an absolute masterpiece.

The exact opposite of the proverbial "Second Book"
Revisado: 11-01-22
Wow, this book was nuts. I compared the two main characters of this trilogy to two other popular characters: Kaladin Stormblessed (Kale) and Logen Ninefingers (Ruka). Book 1 was mostly Kaladin, with some Logen sprinkled throughout. This book was mostly Logen, and because of that, I started to really dislike Kale/Kaladin because I started to REALLY like Ruka/Logen. However, whenever the story went back to Kale, I remembered that I really like him....
This bizarre conflict of emotions was attributed to just how real these characters feel, and was only one positive thing about this book.
The two main systems that gets fleshed out in this book are also insanely cool. Love to see it. Can't wait to dive into book 3!

I've read this book twice in less than a year. It seems to be the most hit-or-miss of Abercrombie's books, but for me it's an absolute hit. My favorite of them all.

Historia
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

I will edit this review when I'm actually done
Revisado: 02-23-22
I absolutely could not stand this narrator, so I stopped after 4 chapters. He paused at a comma once for a FULL 2 SECOND COUNT, and then in the same paragraph would blow past periods and/or other commas as though they weren't there. I don't understand any of the other reviews who enjoyed him.
I gave it 4 stars for the other categories to give it the benefit of the doubt, and I'll update those once I'm actually done reading it (on paper this time) but dear GOD Colin Mace is not for me.

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Sanderson 2.0
Revisado: 05-21-21
This book had some subtle similarities to the work of Brandon Sanderson, which I love, so I very much enjoyed the "Easter eggs."
Otherwise, great book. Not Sanderson tier, but real good. I'll definitely read 2 and 3 of this trilogy asap!

Editing this review to say that the last 20 seconds + publishing info have the most BALLER piano piece accompaniment playing. I get chills every single time, and I've listened to the last bit like 8 times now. 10/10
Came to this book right after reading all of the currently released Cosmere books.
My expectations were high, and while for the first chunk of the book I found myself missing Sanderson's characters, I quickly forgot them as I came to enjoy the character and world Evan Winter has created. 10/10 would read again. I look forward to reading book 2 and I'm not going to be a happy camper of this dude pulls a GRRM or a Patrick Rothfus and abandons his series, because this first book was absolute fire.
