very good
Revisado: 05-12-24
there are some some stories that stand the test of time they are good no matter when you read them. This is one of them, excellent writing I love the adventures that the characters experience and the way both the writer and narrator helps the listeners to experience it all. can't wait to read the rest.

Historia
What do you really know about the fight against slavery in America? We’re all familiar with the Underground Railroad and the Emancipation Proclamation, but the fight against slavery was not some sudden movement that sprang up in the middle of the 19th century. Resistance from the enslaved started on the western coast of Africa in the 15th century and continued as the institution of slavery was codified in America, culminating with the War between the States.

One of the best Great Courses
Revisado: 08-21-22
I have listened to many Great Courses and this is first one that has affected me so deeply. I had to put it down in some places and walk away to try and breath then come back to it. It's absolutely shocking how blacks were treated and the worse part is this is a retelling so the true day to day experiences must have been much worse. the last lecture about modern day slavery made me cringe and also made me feel like a coward for not trying to help. this lecture is worth every credit and every minute of listening time.

Beginning with the Renaissance, the culture of the West exploded. Over the next 600 years, rapid innovations in philosophy, technology, economics, military affairs, and politics allowed what had once been a cultural backwater left by the collapse of the Roman Empire to dominate the world. This comprehensive series of 48 lectures by an award-winning teacher and captivating lecturer will show you how - and why - this extraordinary transformation took place.

I kept listening
Revisado: 06-28-22
the narrator was good, the story was somewhat boring but it kept me listening. I guess I wanted Nancy to redeem herself somehow, it came at the end. overall I found Nancy to be selfish, and a user I wish I had liked her more throughout the story.

Historia
Rightly recognized as one of the world's most important spiritual texts, the Bible has shaped thousands of years of faith, art, and human history. Yet for all its importance to believers and nonbelievers alike, we rarely engage with the Bible as a collection of unique narratives that were only later united into what we now know as the Old and New Testaments. And these different texts - historical narratives, dramatic visions, poems, songs, letters - speak to a broad range of experience, from joy and wonder to tragedy and mystery.

excellent
Revisado: 05-08-22
a course everyone should listen to whether they are christians or nor. the author/ lecturer helped to the audience to understand the bible in its proper context without all the drama that is today associated with the biblical text. he stripes away the divisiveness that it can engender and helps us to see what the text was really saying, he challenges the listeners to think differently too and that is really good.

This is the dumbest book I have ever read
Revisado: 04-05-22
Books like these give the romance genre a bad name. it is beyond dumb and pointless, the hero is a complete baffon the only thing he has to recommend his his handsome face and his money. He is stupid, even thinking hurts his brain, I am surprised he didn't refer to his brain as his brain box. In my opinion the hero of a book should be heroic in every way not just looks. The narrator annoyed me too, I have listened to Kate Reading before and liked her somehow she just didn't work here maybe I have out grown her voice, but she sounds too old for the characters she voices except for the old women of course. In total this book is dumb all round.

Wonderful
Revisado: 03-04-22
as always Prof. Allitt does a really good job. he tried to present a very balanced view of British Empire good and bad I appreciate that. At times his Britishness came out, But I forgive him, deep down it's hard to separate who you are and your feelings from what you are presenting. That aside the lecturer is an excellent teacher, I loved that he presented the material in chronological order and he left no stone unturned in terms of the various ways the Empire affected all it's colonies. very good job.

Have you ever wondered why America, unlike virtually any other industrial nation, continues to show so much religious vitality? Or why are the varieties of religion found in the United States are so numerous and diverse? In this vigorous series of 24 lectures, Professor Allitt argues that the best way to look for explanations of this truly remarkable vitality and diversity is to study the nation's religious history. That's a task, though, that involves more than simply examining religion from the directions you might expect....
