Historia
Joni Mitchell is a cultural touchstone for generations of Americans. In her heyday she released 10 experimental, challenging, and revealing albums; her lyrics captivated people with the beauty of their language and the rawness of their emotions, both deeply personal to Mitchell and universally relatable to her audience. In this intimate biography, composed of dozens of in-person interviews with Mitchell, David Yaffe reveals the backstory behind the famous songs.

Sycophant's Eulogy
Revisado: 05-18-18
I can't believe I spent time on this book. I finished it. I kept thinking that maybe it would transcend itself. It was a sycophantic account of Joni's life and her songs. His interpretations of her songs didn't add to my experience of them. I wish I could unknow some of the details of her life. If you like Joni Mitchell's music, stay away from this book.

Informative book, annoying narrator
Revisado: 03-21-17
There were times when I couldn't go on listening because of the narrator's overly dramatic intonation. But the information was compelling enough for me to take it up again.

Historia
Borderline personality disorder, autism, narcissism, psychosis, Asperger's: All of these syndromes have one thing in common---lack of empathy. In some cases, this absence can be dangerous, but in others it can simply mean a different way of seeing the world. In The Science of Evil, Simon Baron-Cohen, an award-winning British researcher who has investigated psychology and autism for decades, develops a new brain-based theory of human cruelty.

One of the best of its kind
Revisado: 02-12-15
The author brings brain research into the ongoing debate on the nature of evil. I've read the classic works on psychopaths, and found baron-Cohen's concept of empathy, degrees of empathy and the variability of empathy within an individual to be an important contribution to our understanding of evil.
