She Does Talk Fast!
Revisado: 02-25-23
She writes like she talks. Good thing I am a fan or she might have driven me a little nuts. As a fan of Gilmore Girls, it was interesting to hear some stories about filming. Sounds like it would have been as much fun to make as it was to watch. Lauren is a talented actor and author.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-03-23
My abusive narcissist mother told me if you've nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. (Silence)
Don't get the narration, she speaks in unemotional monotone throughout. It makes her sound like a spoiled whiner. But, she discusses that.

Historia
Mel Brooks' own words telling all about the players, the filming, and studio antics during the production of this great comedy classic. The audiobook is alive and teeming with hundreds of photos, original interviews, and hilarious commentary. Young Frankenstein was made with deep respect for the craft and history of cinema-and for the power of a good schwanzstucker joke. This audiobook will also rely on interviews with gifted director of photography Gerald Hirschfeld, Academy Award-winning actress Cloris Leachman, and veteran producer Michael Gruskoff.

I always thought Mel Brooks was a gift. He presents us with what we need to make life bearable - a little love and a lot of laughter. In this book we learn what makes Young Frankenstein special. This time Mr. Brooks gave us a lot of love and even more laughter. What a film! What a cast! What a story!

Fantastic!
Revisado: 01-15-23
I loved this! I am sure the written word book would be great but to hear the stories in the voices of the people involved was wonderful. Our whole family has loved this movie since it was initially released. Hearing about what went on behind the scenes, the passion to get it made, and the life long friendships created makes me love it even more. Cary Elwes is a family favorite actor, now a favorite person. Highly recommend.

It Dragged On and On
Revisado: 01-06-23
I was really looking forward to this book. We were told we would like it if we were fans of the #1 Women's Detective Agency., which I loved. This wasn't even close. If it was meant as a political statement as to how the British left India, if failed. Nothing directed to by this story came close to the way women, children, and the lower classes were treated by their own people. I didn't feel this was a mystery. You knew who did it from the beginning. I felt the narrator was the final nail.

Through her ability to communicate directly with the dead, Allison DuBois relays the wants, desires, and experiences of the deceased. The dead have their own world, but it is important to them to also remain a part of ours.

Historia
This riveting narrative explores the lives of six remarkable female pharaohs, from Hatshepsut to Cleopatra - women who ruled with real power - and shines a piercing light on our own perceptions of women in power today. Female rulers are a rare phenomenon - but thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, women reigned supreme. But throughout human history, women in positions of power were more often used as political pawns in a male-dominated society. What was so special about ancient Egypt that provided women this kind of access to the highest political office?

I was excited for this book. I love Egyptology. But what I don't want is to have someone preach at me regarding their political views on current issues. Especially as it is all opinion on her part. I was robbed - of my money for this book and the time I wasted listening and reading.

I have always loved and respected Ms. Margolyes for her frank and candid opinions. I adore everything I have ever seen her in. I was excited to see this book and eager to listen. It gave me an entire view of what makes her tick. Although it was very interesting, it leaves me liking her less. I guess it brings to mind what they say about meeting your heroes.
