An amazing listen
Revisado: 09-12-23
Listening to this story, you’d think the author was speaking of 2023.
This book was more than just sociological gold mine; it also drudged memories of my time in Black America. As a black man living in America, I came across every single black person mentioned in this book and more. This book literally spoke to my mind, body, soul, and experience. And the narration was on point! I love how the narrator changed his tone to try and match some of the character voices, rather than reading blandly. Beautiful!

Historia
He is perhaps most well-known for being exiled from the league for praying—instead of standing and saluting the flag–during the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before games throughout the 1995-96 season. Abdul-Rauf’s protest sent shockwaves through the NBA that can still be felt today. With wit and candor, Abdul-Rauf tells the story of how he rose to the top of his game—only to have his career taken away in the blink of an eye when he stood up for his principles.

Historia
Over one million Black men and women served in World War II. Black troops were at Normandy, Iwo Jima, and the Battle of the Bulge, serving in segregated units and performing unheralded but vital support jobs, only to be denied housing and educational opportunities on their return home. Without their crucial contributions to the war effort, the United States could not have won the war. And yet the stories of these Black veterans have long been ignored, cast aside in favor of the myth of the “Good War” fought by the “Greatest Generation.”

My late granddad served in WW2 as a US Navy Seabee from 1944 to 1945 as a coxswain. I never knew why served for such a short time. After listening to this, and the stories he told me when I was young, I think I’m understand why on some many levels.

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

Outstanding Book!
Revisado: 12-31-22
When it comes to the free sci-fi genre on audio, most of them are pretty much the same story of some white dude (or woman) saving and sleeping their way the the story. Boring, predictable, and typical blueprint. But audiobook was amazing! I feel like I need to give this a second listen; the stories that reside in the audiobook really make you think, and while I did correctly guess certain things, still was shocking to find out or guess what the meaning of it all meant. The author should continue this and make this into a series.

Historia
The day Fatima forgot her name, Death paid a visit. From hereon in she would be known as Sankofa - a name that meant nothing to anyone but her, the only tie to her family and her past. Her touch is death, and with a glance a town can fall. And she walks - alone, except for her fox companion - searching for the object that came from the sky and gave itself to her when the meteors fell and when she was yet unchanged; searching for answers.

Finally a Ghanaian and Muslim centered story!!!
Revisado: 10-30-22
I love this book. I feel not only is there not enough black and Muslim representation in sci-if, but never any Ghanaian representation! So happy that fellow Ghanaian Adjoa Andoh narrated this book as well. All though some of the Arabic words were mispronounced, still an amazing story. Insha’Allah in the near future I hope to expand on this, and add more Muslim and Ghanaian representation to sci-fi.

Anti-Muslim I see.
Revisado: 03-13-22
I really like the extinction series. Well put together, captivating survival stories. However, I couldn’t help but feel hurt that the Muslims in the book were portrayed…as usual, the deceitful bad guys. This this story had me really hooked, until it made the only Muslim characters out to be collaborators, self-servicing, suspicious, typical Muslim terrorist BS! The author had a chance to change the narrative, and not feed into the lies and stereotypical bs that is believed about Muslims; we’re out to for ourselves, and even in time of crisis and human survival, we can’t be trusted, at all. If your a Muslim and you enjoy zombie-end of the world type entertainment. Just know this series does not show us in a positive light. Either we are weak and are killed off, or we have some alternative motive “risking it all for the glory of Allah”. It’s a stab in heart, and cheapens the story that much more. I wouldn’t be surprised if the author has anti-Muslim views and sentiments.
