Historia
Lirael lost one of her hands in the binding of Orannis, but now she has a new hand, one of gilded steel and Charter Magic. On a dangerous journey, Lirael returns to her childhood home, the Clayr's Glacier, where she was once a Second Assistant Librarian. There a young woman from the distant North brings her a message from her long-dead mother, Arielle. It is a warning about the Witch with No Face. But who is the Witch, and what is she planning?

Not like the other books
Revisado: 12-20-20
I was pretty upset by the lackluster story. It reads like a teen novel. I felt like the characters broke from their personalities in a way that was jarring and underdeveloped.

I loved Lirael, but this was just not the same
Revisado: 04-19-20
I really had difficultly getting into this story. I really wanted to like it, and tried to listen to it a few times but always had issues being able to pay attention because the story was so boring. I really found the characters to be flat and not at all as dynamic as those in the previous books. I will be exchanging this for a book I enjoy more.

Historia
Marianne decided to finally find out if her elusive "perfect existence" - the one without debt, anxiety, or hangover Netflix marathons, the one where she healthily bounced around town and met the cashmere-sweater-wearing man of her dreams - really did lie in the pages of our best-known and acclaimed self-help books. She vowed to test a book a month for one year, following its advice to the letter, taking what she hoped would be the surest path to a flawless new her. But as the months passed, Marianne’s reality was turned upside down.

The story is cute. A moderately neurotic woman tries self-help. The book is vert honest, and I probably appreciated this most about it. The only issue I had with it was that it really was just a story. I didn't personally get a lot of growth out of it because a lot of the "lessons" seemed fairly obvious. I also had an issue with the premise of the book. I was initially sold it because it was someone who was going to completely follow a self-help book's advice for 1 month. She followed the first couple books pretty well, but after that she started "half-doing" the books. She didn't follow them 100%. It's here that I appreciate the honesty and the realization that she couldn't actually stick to her initial goal. I think the sincerity somewhat makes up for it, but I do still wonder what it would be like if someone actually did all these self-help books 100%. The one thing I learned was that self help is definitely not for me.
