Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

Sad subject, great research
Revisado: 09-26-22
Great legwork done on this awful situation, I wish there was some resolution to the case so it wouldn’t have to end with so many unanswered questions and such a sinking sense of despair.
One super minor thing I noticed…the little bit of research I’ve done on this story, all sources but this book refer to Teri and Kane’s daughter as ‘Kiara’ not ‘Kayla’. Just curious what is correct. Again crazy minor thing to notice and certainly not relevant to the major focus or urgency of the subject matter…just something I noticed.

Skip It
Revisado: 08-05-21
First of all the narrator absolutely butchers half of the words she’s reading. Only one example, Somerset Maugham - is not pronounced Maw-gum. 🤦🏼♀️ Second- so so so many obvious grammatical errors it’s painful. Finally- the story itself is basically just a recitation of the discovery and the same of the sentencing script. The chapter where she describes the night of the murders, I think she says “This would be the LAST TIME Shannan would ever…blah blah blah” about 100 times. Just not a lot of new information and although my heart breaks over this entire situation, it starts to lose its impact when the descriptions and narrative are either non existent or so repetitive. Several of other books available on Audible that have a lot more information and are just much more creatively written overall.

Historia
In the Name of the Children gives an unflinching look at what it's like to fight a never-ending battle against an enemy far more insidious than terrorists: the predators, lurking amongst us, who seek to harm our children. During his 30-year career with the FBI, Jeff Rinek worked hundreds of investigations involving crimes against children: from stranger abduction to serial homicide to ritualized sexual abuse. Those who do this kind of work are required to plumb the depths of human depravity, to see things no one should ever have to see - and once seen can never forget.

Very Raw and Emotional Story!
Revisado: 07-08-21
The author seems to be an amazing man who offered much of himself to his mission. Story overall was great although somewhat hard to digest at times due to the graphic nature of some of the crimes he assisted in solving. Only issue is the narrator’s voice and overall tone did not match the subject matter at all and made the very sensitive subject matter seem robotic and emotionless at times. Otherwise, a great read for any true crime enthusiast!

Chris Watts was a family man. Everybody, including his family, believed that. Yet, on August 13, 2018, he murdered Shanann, his pregnant wife, and two young daughters. As terrible as his story is, it is also a warning because to this day, living behind bars, Watts is still acting out the character traits that made him kill in the first place.

Weird Narrator
Revisado: 06-30-21
Book itself was an excellent look at the case from a psychological standpoint and really digs deep. They need to get rid of the narrator though. Voice was bad enough in itself but hearing her trying to use a “manly” voice just sounded ridiculous.

Okay
Revisado: 05-26-21
Book itself was good with plenty of intriguing cases and good information. However, the author is the one reading and she is not good. She sounds robotic and idk, something about her monotone and inflection-less narration kind of makes the subject matter less interesting and harder to stay focused on. Excellent writer...but get a different narrator.

Historia
An estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States. Only one in 10,000 are found dead. Yet unsolved child murders are almost a daily occurrence - of nearly 52,000 juvenile homicides between 1980 and 2008, more than 20 percent remain open. Drawing on FBI reports, police and court records, and interviews with victims’ families, this book provides details and evidence for 18 unsolved cases from 1956 to 1998.

Obviously this is a bit outdated but still fascinating and thought provoking. You never know when someone will have a memory jogged when they hear about these cases even years later.
