Historia
The teenagers get their kicks telling ghost stories in the old graveyard. The parents trust their kids will arrive home safe from school. Everyone knows everyone. Curtains rarely twitch. Front doors are left unlocked. But Diana Brewer isn’t lying safely in her bed where she belongs. Instead she lies in a hayfield, circled by vultures, discovered by a local farmer. How quickly a girl becomes a ghost. How quickly a town of friendly, familiar faces becomes a town of suspects, a place of fear and paranoia.

The book kept me entertained but, I knew the ending from the beginning. Kind of just entertaining junk. The narration was good!

SO bad that its good! Entertaining for sure
Revisado: 04-29-23
This book is seriously such a predictable and cheesy story. But, extremely entertaining. If you're looking for something kind of mindless and fun...go for it! Xe Sands narration was top notch as always, but I could only give performance two stars as I found Amy Rubinate's narration almost intolerable! I don't understand why they chose to have her read this character as if it was a robot reading porn. Her intonation was so strange, inappropriate to the character, fake-sexy sounding and incredibly annoying. Other than that, it was a fun read.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Beautiful writing and narration
Revisado: 04-02-23
I often felt that the story was simply not getting off the ground. But felt compelled to keep listening , as the writing and narration is so beautiful. Ultimately, I fell in love with this moving book and was so glad I stuck with it. It’s the kind of book that stays with you well after you’re finished.

Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Make it stop!!!
Revisado: 01-01-23
This book started out so well and I was engaged immediately. It seemed like it was going to be a really good murder mystery. Sadly, it then became more about educating the reader on trans people’s experiences. It was done in such a “soapbox” fashion that I started to lose all feelings for the character and just wanted it to stop! Maybe a better editing job would have helped?? My impatience had nothing to do with being close minded about the subject… which I don’t feel I am, i felt the lecture just went on and on and on and i felt insulted by the author who seemed to think i was stupid and narrow minded. This lecture wasn’t what i signed up for when i bought the book. I stayed with it to the end because I did want to find out whodunnit! The conclusion seemed so anticlimactic and lameI just found myself rolling my eyes at so much of it. Loved the narration, but other than that don’t bother. You might feel as ripped off as I did.

Revisado: 07-08-20
I adored this book and listening to Michelle Obama read it. But I felt like there was something wrong with the speed. Once I turned it up it sounded like her normal voice.
I cried my way through this book. I simply cannot fathom how we could have had such amazing people in the White House and now we have this. I continue to be dumbfounded.

great story with very irritating narration
Revisado: 06-12-15
Where does All I Love and Know rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of my favorite books of the year. Another reviewer said that the book tried to do too much. Perhaps that true. It did cover a lot of issues. But it did it well! I found the story moving, interesting and it felt super real to me. I loved the well developed characters: both adults and children. I cared about all of them and I wanted to read it until late hours of the night. These well developed characters all showed vulnerability and felt very real to me. I loved how this story touched on the complexities of loss, family, home, love, relationships and even the politics of Israel. Unfortunately, for me, the narration was very difficult to get past.
How could the performance have been better?
This narrator was inconsistent and distracting. He sounded like he was narrating a preview for a grade B horror flick one moment and then the next moment like he was narrating Gone with the Wind. He spoke in a hushed tone a lot, which I just didn't get. The voices and accents he gave the characters were inconsistent and inappropriate. For example: Daniel, the main character, grew up in a upper crust suburb of New York. He was highly educated. The narrator seemed so impressed with himself that he could do a New York accent and needed to show us that. I grew up in New York and it seemed to me that the one he gave Daniel was more typical of an old Brooklyn cab driver than one of a brilliant writer, musician who went to Oberlin College in Ohio. His partner Matt, grew up in Illinois. He also was given a New York accent (at times anyway). He slips into a southern drawl occasionally also. The over performing is extremely distracting and confusing. I just wanted to say to the narrator "JUST READ THE STORY". I did love the voice he gave the little girl in the story...got to give him that!

DREADFULLY SLOW!
Revisado: 04-16-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I am really not sure. This book just did not have enough going on for me. Maybe I'm too old for it? Not sure. Perhaps it was just the pacing...perhaps better read in print, where one can pace themselves. Clearly the subject matter is something that isn't written about often and is extremely important.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was one of the most moving and beautiful stories ever. I guess I was hoping for something as substantive and deeply moving.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something more intricate and well written. I think I am planning on re-reading Margaret Atwood's Cats Eye.
How could the performance have been better?
speed it up girl! Also, her voice was too old for the character. It bothered me a lot. Even tried listening it sped up by 1.25. Worked a bit.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Me Before You?
1/2 the book.
Any additional comments?
I seem to be the minority here. But, all I wanted to do was fast forward to the ending...

the tears started at the first chapter
Revisado: 10-22-13
Would you consider the audio edition of And the Mountains Echoed to be better than the print version?
I adored the narration of this book. I realized that other readers found the accents distracting. But, I felt that it added a lot to the story. Their voices felt genuine and made this already deeply moving book even more so. To me, it was like hearing poetry read vs. reading it to oneself.
What did you like best about this story?
It's rare that a book comes along that digs so deeply into your heart. This was a sad, insightful, thought provoking, heart wrenching story about family, loss, aging, rebirth, human connection and human cruelty. It's the kind of book that when it's over you just want to sit and stare into space to let it all sink in.
Which scene was your favorite?
The thing about this book is that the beauty just never let's up. Each chapter is so beautifully crafted and each character so well developed that it's impossible for me to choose a favorite.
Any additional comments?
Khaled Housseini's writing is so beautiful that sometimes the sentences themselves just carry you away. It's the kind of book that you want to replay certain paragraphs just to hear them read again, as one would a poem.

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

This book will change your life forever!
Revisado: 07-29-13
If you could sum up The Elephant Whisperer in three words, what would they be?
Moving, inspiring, beautiful
What did you like best about this story?
The book read so well. I don't usually read non-fiction, yet I couldn't put this book down. The stories are so moving and so profoundly beautiful that you will laugh and cry all the way from beginning to end. Not only did I find it entertaining, but I leaned a lot from reading these inspirational stories. Lawrence Anthony was an amazing man nd what a gift to have found his book. He was able to write about all of his adventures and accomplishments without ever sounding arrogant. If he'd not been so humble, he would never have been able to accomplish what he did with these amazing animals. That was moving in itself.
What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His accents were wonderful! Perfect voice and pacing throughout the book. If Lawrence Anthony could have read it himself, this is what i would imagine it would sound like.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried so much during many of these stories, both from joy and sadness. I also cried once I learned that Lawrence Anthony has since passed away. What an incredible man! The world is not going to be the same without him in it.
Any additional comments?
Do not walk...RUN to start reading this magnificent book. Your mind and heart will be open in a new way after reading The Elephant Whisperer.
