Historia
From one of the finest writers of our time comes this luminous story of a lifelong friendship between two couples, the Morgans and the Langs. With his customary grace and power, Stegner evokes the dense web of feeling and experience that binds these people together: joy and sorrow, fulfillment and frustration, anger and forgiveness, suffering and survival. Crossing to Safety is a storytelling marvel, and a stirring affirmation of life in all its complexity, pain, and wonder.

crossing to safety

I think I would have enjoyed this book more were it not for the reader. I found his force annoying, his treatment of dialogue wrong for the words and the character, the pacing off and words often mispronounced. I feel as though I need to read this book rather than listen to it because of this.

Historia
In the summer of 1959, as Castro clamps down on Cuba and its first wave of exiles flees to the States to wait out what they hope to be his short-lived reign, Emma Gant, fresh out of college, begins her career as a reporter. Her fierce ambition and belief in herself are set against the stories swirling around her, both at the newspaper office and in her downtown Miami hotel, which is filling up with refugees.

Book was poor but narrator worse
Revisado: 05-15-08
I have never written a review before but I find that as disappointing as this book is as a novel, with cliches and shallow, silly characters, the narrator made it even worse. I have been listening to books on tape for years and this person is by far the worst I have ever heard. She makes a bad book considerably worse.

Historia
Six children have escaped government experiments, and a frightening brush with death. Living out in the world for the first time, they yearn to be reunited with Kit and Frannie, the couple who saved their lives, and to return to the cabin known as the Lake House. But before they can get there, they will face a horrifying evil, for one man has survived the laboratory that bred the flying children, and he is obsessed with reclaiming them for a new round of experiments - with an even more deadly outcome.

The Lake House is trash
Revisado: 07-29-03
A ten year old could have done better. I agree with the reader who said it was embarassing. Where was the editor when this book was published. The dialogue was childish, repetitious and vapid. The plot was nonsense. I shudder to think of the trees that we lost on this junk. Patterson should refund my money.
