Historia
In the spring of 1970, Harvard psychologist Terry Canyon is introduced to Peter, a quiet kid from a wealthy family who has been suspended from ninth grade for stripping off his clothes in algebra class. When Terry asks Peter why he did it, the boy explains that he was trying to “shock myself awake”. It turns out that Peter believes he is a 65-year-old man who went to sleep in his home in New York in the year 2020 and woke up in his childhood bedroom 50 years earlier.

Beautiful story. Amazingly told. Often funny. Often very sad. I just turned 80. I find my mind trying to go in reverse, but it is not so easy. Thanks.

Historia
When a spaceship landed in an open field in the quiet mill town of Sorrow Falls, Massachusetts, everyone realized humankind was not alone in the universe. With that realization everyone freaked out for a little while. Or almost everyone. The residents of Sorrow Falls took the news pretty well. This could have been due to a certain local quality of unflappability, or it could have been that in three years the ship did exactly nothing other than sit quietly in that field, and nobody understood the full extent of this nothing the ship was doing better than the people who lived right next door.

Strange Story, but Cute and Worth The Times
Revisado: 03-10-17
I never could have guessed how it would turn out. In fact, I could not guess what was going to happen in the next ten minutes. Based on a lot of technology and science presented in a homey way. I really got to liking most of the characters, even the bad guys. Great presentation!

Historia
For more than 50 years, the world's top scientists searched for the "missing" planet Vulcan, whose existence was mandated by Isaac Newton's theories of gravity. Countless hours were spent on the hunt for the elusive orb, and some of the era's most skilled astronomers even claimed to have found it. There was just one problem: It was never there.

Bringing together giant of thought
Revisado: 06-29-16
I loved the I depth descriptions of the Giants in science they did. I learned the basics many years ago and now see how truly basic my learning was. I liked the shortness of the volume. It was very heavy material and I had so little time. Can't wait to chat with someone.

A new level of understanding evolution
Revisado: 07-04-15
A challenging book that greatly expanded my knowledge and understanding of evolution. Well worth the read if only to look into the lives of ants and bees. And then human genetics of social behavior and variations from the same gene. It was great and deserves a second listen.

Never will know enough
Revisado: 04-29-15
Excellent review by two very good presenters. For as much as I already know, I picked up some very good advice and information and reinforced a lot of beliefs. As a result of the book, I have reviewed my portfolio and see that I am significantly out of balance for my situation. Also, I have to get my kids (already in their 40s) to start working on their savings.

Historia
In Arrival of the Fittest, renowned evolutionary biologist Andreas Wagner draws on over 15 years of research to present the missing piece in Darwin's theory. Using experimental and computational technologies that were heretofore unimagined, he has found that adaptations are not just driven by chance, but by a set of laws that allow nature to discover new molecules and mechanisms in a fraction of the time that random variation would take.

Born too soon.
Revisado: 04-20-15
I sometimes wonder if I slept my way thru high school and college and consequently learned so little. This book gave me an understanding of so many concepts and methods that didn't even exist in my day. Also a better understanding of the research community. Some was a little over my head, but it all made sense. The speaker was excellent. Maybe I was born too soon. This helped me do a lot of catching up.

I'll be a lot more cautious . . .
Revisado: 03-03-11
I had been a subscriber since 2001 and listened to more than 100 audio books and loved just about all of them. Unfortunately, I bit on an Audible promotion for this one and purchased the book. I've always listened to a book to the very end and nearly finished it, but I gave up. It was so lame, so unfunny and so unexciting that I went into a depression realizing I not only wasted a credit, but all of those hours of listening. I couldn't deal with being fooled so badly again that I dropped my subscription to Audible in September 2010 and only today renewed. I was embarrased by this book and didn't want anyone to know I had anything to do with it. Well, now others know and I will not be fooled so badly again.

Historia
Seldom has a book been the subject of more widespread discussion than The Jungle. It is the dramatic expose of the Chicago meat-packing industry at the turn of the century which prompted an investigation by Theodore Roosevelt, culminating in the pure-food legislation of 1906. The Jungle is the story of Jurgis Rudkus, a Slav immigrant, who marries frail Ona Lukoszaite and seeks security and happiness as a workman in the Chicago stockyards.

The Jungle still instills horror.
Revisado: 03-02-10
I can hardly believe I have gone so many decades without having been exposed to this book. It is shocking, discouraging and heart rending. Having quite a few immigrants in our state (Colorado) and a number of meat packing houses, I can imagine similar emotions and tragedy. Those poor people. Now I know that the origins of the sales pitch, "you can own for what it cost to rent."

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

You've heard of the "Great Books"? These are their evil opposites. From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker.

How people can struggle so hard to oppose the quest for science and truth is beyond me. I thought there might be a little bit of reality behind this, but there wasn't.
