Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Exquisite
Revisado: 06-26-19
This is one of the most beautiful novels I have encountered. Each character is developed fully, with the main character capturing the essence of her lagoon, the grasses and insects, birds and even mushrooms. What a beautiful life she had, tied to the water and her land. The ending was a surprise and it pulled loose ends wonderfully together.
The reader brought life and depth to the characters, being one of the most versatile readers I have ever heard, with her use of the varied regional accents, along with masculine and feminine voices.

It's the further delightful adventures of the Feline Threesome, now added by a dog! Just enough subterfuge & murder to spice things up, makes this latest mystery as delectable as the varied (non-vet approved!) meals the Three regularly consume, compliments of the close-knit characters whom the cats consider their family.
If you've ever lived with a cat who made you suspect that he understands you well, can anticipate your thinking, or was unlike any cat you'd ever known, then you would truly enjoy this series. If not, then let this series open your eyes to what the rest of us already realize about the Feline Mind!

Historia
When a peculiar letter arrives inviting Armand Gamache to an abandoned farmhouse, the former head of the Sûreté du Québec discovers that a complete stranger has named him one of the executors of her will. Still on suspension, and frankly curious, Gamache accepts and soon learns that the other two executors are Myrna Landers, the bookseller from Three Pines, and a young builder. None of them had ever met the elderly woman. The will is so odd and includes bequests that are so wildly unlikely that Gamache and the others suspect the woman must have been delusional.

How in the world does Ms. Penny write such compelling stories? I cannot stop listening, tho it's bedtime, or meeting time...or anything that interrupts my listening. The characters are rich with personality, flawed and wonderful at the same time. The timbre of the reader's voice portrays Armand exactly as I would imagine him. Please, Ms. Penny, give us another story about Armand, his family & friends at Three Pines. Now, with grandchildren in Paris, he can help the French, too!

Historia
Even felines with such amazing talents as Joe Grey and his partner, Dulcie, need some down time. Using their amazing abilities to talk and read, they’ve helped their unwitting humans put bad guys away. But these clever four-footed detectives can’t possibly enjoy a little catnap, not when their lovely seaside village is in an uproar. It’s bad enough that Molena Point has been invaded by a famous writer and his suspiciously rude wife. Then the local yard sales set off a host of puzzling thefts.

Revisado: 02-06-19
I've enjoyed every book in this series. Each one seems to be either excellent, or better than the one before, if that is possible. The author has researched many topics in great depth, adding to the descriptions and the color of the narrative. The geographic area sounds like such a lovely tourist attraction & an even better place to live. As a feline rescuer, I am quite enchanted by the concept of talking cats! All the cats who have lived with me have distinctly different personalities. I've had a very smart, affectionate grey like Joe & my husband has had a tortoise shell who loved (only) him completely. Our tabby is 20!

Historia
While Joe Grey has played tricks on Max Harper, Molena Point's head lawman, he's never had anything but respect for the dedicated sheriff. Now Harper's in trouble, suspected of murdering two friends, and the only witness, a young girl named Dillon, has disappeared. Both Dulcie and Joe know Harper is innocent, and Joe is hissing to prove it - and find Dillon. Their sleuthing, however, is hampered by something soft and small - their new "ward," a vivacious kitten whose curiosity could get them all killed.

A Terrific Read!
Revisado: 12-15-18
I couldn't stop listening to this exciting, fast-paced story around Joe, the clever grey cat. The cat personalities are beautifully developed (as are the human ones!) and remind me that my four rescue cats have marvelously different personalities that contribute different features to our own family's makeup. There's just enough mystery, just enough romance, just enough tension, to keep the plot well-paced. I cannot wait to download the next Joe Grey title!

Historia
Ever since the earthquake, things have been going from bad to worse in Molena Point, usually the most tranquil little town on the North California coast. It started with that suspicious "accident" on Hellhag Hill. The police might write it off to the night fog, but Joe Grey knows a cut brake line when he sees it - he may be a cat, but he's already solved more murders than your average police detective!

What a Terrific Tail
Revisado: 11-03-18
Fast moving, colorful characters & a compelling plot kept my ears *glued* to this latest Joe Grey mystery. After listening to this latest book, I'd really like to visit the town & meet the folks, dine at the eateries & especially meet the cat folks. I also enjoy the reader's voice; it is perfect for keeping all the characters distinctly different, which must be quite a vocal feat. I'm headed for the next installment!
p.s. I am an animal 'softie', having volunteered in feline Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage & having fed feral cat colonies, so I deeply appreciate that no animals died in this book: when reading, that can really make me wish I hadn't picked that particular book. ;-)

The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon’s 1989 classic, The Wolf’s Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon’s trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation.

More fast-paced stories about the wolf I've come to enjoy, a bit more of the existential, then ironic, this time. Incredibly enjoyable, I cannot wait for the next!

Michael Gallatin is a British spy with a peculiar talent: the ability to transform himself into a wolf. Although his work in North Africa helped the Allies win the continent in the early days of World War II, he quit the service when a German spy shot his lover in her bed. Now, three years later, the army asks him to end his retirement and parachute into occupied Paris. A mysterious German plan called the Iron Fist threatens the D-Day invasion, and the Nazi in charge is the spy who betrayed Michael’s lover. The werewolf goes to France for king and country, hoping for a chance at bloody vengeance.

On the Edge of My Seat!
Revisado: 11-13-17
I ordered this book by a happy accident, one I shall never regret. One warning: the combined thrills, excitement, tension and mystery made me very glad that I took my blood pressure meds before I finally began this increasingly captivating book! I did not expect to be caught up in it as fast I was; the book's 2 main topics have been overdone (but perhaps not combined like this) and I dislike reading about wars...and werewolves? Haven't we had enough TV series on that topic? But soon after being drawn into this fast-paced book (thanks again that I took my meds), I was already picking out who should play the male lead when it is made into a movie: Daniel Craig (from James Bond) or maybe Kit Harrington (from Game of Thrones). So, for the rest of this hair-raising (bad pun!) book, I usually saw Daniel Craig performing the wolf and man exploits. I'm just not quite sure who should play the tall blonde female...
p.s. this novel screams for a follow-on book! Please!!

When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Amazing Twists & Turns
Revisado: 10-14-17
This is truly the best written murder mystery I have ever read. I am a long-time devotée of English murder mysteries and this book exceeds what I have read in its creative plot weavings. Once begun, I could not stop. I listened in my car while going to appointments, I listened in my kitchen while baking and outside while gardening! I highly recommend this book, but be prepared for periods of anxiety between your periods of listening; you truly will not want to stop devouring this book-within-a-book!
