Historia
In the distant future, corporations have become sustainable communities with their own militaries, and corporate goals have essentially replaced political ideology. On a youthful, rebellious impulse, Lawrence joined the military of a corporation that he now recognizes to be ruthless and exploitative. His only hope for escape is to earn enough money to buy his place in a better corporation.

Historia
Eight of the nine Palm provinces of the Peninsula have been overcome by warrior sorcerers Brandin and Alberico. But the sorcerers don't know that a small band of survivors is plotting their removal. With tensions mounting, the sorcerers become increasingly at odds as each decides where his own path - and that of the land - should truly lie.

lovely prose, grounded world, good narrator
Revisado: 05-10-24
The writing is beautiful. Many passages would work just as well in a poem. The world, or rather how characters moved through it, and interacted with it felt very real and grounded. The fantastical elements are rather light which allows occurrences of magic and such a startling significance. I'm impressed all of this story could be satisfyingly contained into a single book. I will definitely be reading more GGK.

Historia
Earth's century of peace as a colony of an alien race has been shattered. As the alien-run government navigates peace talks with the human terrorist group Sapience, Donovan tries to put his life back together and return to his duty as a member of the security forces. But a new order comes from the alien home planet: withdraw. Earth has proven too costly and unstable to maintain as a colony, so the aliens, along with a small selection of humans, begin to make plans to leave. Suddenly Earth becomes vulnerable to a takeover from other alien races....

Historia
It was, maybe, the first job I'd ever had where people were happy to see me. An odd feeling indeed, to wield this kind of power. To be this kind of force. As near to magical as any mortal should stride. A technician of unspeakable joy. Braving the neon mountains to return with blue raspberry concentrate. Tearing out sundae cone fangs from the mouths of snow beasts. And so on.

Sam Pink is good
Revisado: 05-16-21
I loved it. The narrator's selection of voices for the characters is funny. it has actually helped me read Sam Pink's other stuff. And if you haven't read Sam Pink, give this a try! He has mastered the art of capturing common life and hilarious mundanity in the early 21st century U.S.

Historia
Tales of the Out & the Gone reflects the astounding evolution of America's most provocative literary anti-hero. The first section of the audiobook, War Stories, offers six stories enmeshed in the vola-tile politics of the 1970s and 1980s. The second section, Tales of the Out & the Gone, reveals Amiri Baraka's increasing literary adventurousness, combining an unpredictable language play with a passion for abstraction and psychological exploration.

Great Collection
Revisado: 01-28-19
Kevin Free did a fantastic job bringing Baraka's characters to life. Baraka's has a hit-you-in-the-gut way of crafting socio-political points the remain relevant even today.
