Historia
All Denny Malone wants is to be a good cop. He is the "King of Manhattan North", a highly decorated NYPD detective sergeant and the real leader of "Da Force". Malone and his crew are the smartest, the toughest, the quickest, the bravest, and the baddest - an elite special unit given carte blanche to fight gangs, drugs, and guns. Every day and every night for the 18 years he's spent on the job, Malone has served on the front lines, witnessing the hurt, the dead, the victims, the perps.

last few chapters ruins the book
Revisado: 06-24-19
The book starts out great, gritty story about corruption and loyalty. The end ruins it all for me, the book turns into some weird fantasy piece, that would have been more realistic if it was written as a dream sequence by the main character.

Historia
On a cold morning a cyclist finds the brutally-slaughtered body of a woman in her car, on a remote lane leading to the long-abandoned Irish village of Kelly’s Forge. But when Detective Finnegan Beck arrives from the nearby town of Cross Beg to investigate he notices there’s a baby’s seat in the back of the car. A bottle of baby’s milk lying in the footwell. And no child. Little Róisín isn’t the first child to go missing from that same remote location though. There was another baby girl, taken more than 50 years before, who was never found.

Revisado: 06-06-19
This is Book 2 of the series and there was a lot growth for the author and his main character Finnegan Beck in this novel. This story has a great setting for a smart and gripping detective novel. the characters are terrific, if you enjoy detective novels, give this one a try.

Historia
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-23-19
Atlee Pine is a good character, but I get the feeling that Baldacci is writing too many books and he's not taking the time to really think through story elements, There are a lot of plot holes and illogical parts that set up twists that really don't make a lot of sense. This book was disappointing, not Amos Decker level disappointing, but disappointing none the less.

Terrific Detective Novel
Revisado: 05-23-19
The first book in the series "The Ruin" was a great debut novel with a ton of potential. The Scholar, is the type of follow up you hope for as a fan. The character development and story telling has improved from what was already a good base in the debut. This one is a great character driven police procedural, similar in nature to a Tana French Dublin Murder Squad book, but with a faster pace with some story telling elements that remind me of Adrian McKinty's novels.

Great Character, bad stories
Revisado: 05-20-19
I've listened to both books in this series and despite the weak plots and less than creative twists, I really like the main character. Hopefully future books will be put together better, story wise, until then enjoy Harper as a character and don't think too critically about the story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
All action all the time thriller with battlefield realism you don't see the genre. Great follow up to "Clear by Fire" and sets the stage for what I think will be a great series.

Hood's descriptions of battlefield action makes other authors in this genre look like amateurs. This series has a ton of potential, can't wait for the next one.
