Important Story that needs to be heard by everybod
Revisado: 01-18-25
It's such an important story to hear, Britain having collectively buried these stories for the last decade. It is infuriating to try and comprehend how all the adults in her life betrayed their duty to care for a child and this happened to 1000s of children in the Uk. From her terrible mother and foster Mother to police and Social workers and even strangers who see a child in distress on the street and look away.
It is hard to listen to. because of all the cliches and overuse of adverbs and adjectives in every sentence, every phrase. But we all need to hear Gaias story and every other girl's story, if we hope to learn from this scandal.

Historia
Evgeny Prigozhin emerged as one of the most dangerous warlords in the world and as one of Vladimir Putin's chief rivals in Russia's tumultuous political climate, exiled after leading Wagner's attempted coup and killed in a mysterious plane crash. But what is the truth about this enigmatic figure, his role in the war with Ukraine, and the chaos unleashed across Russia by his turn against Putin? And, the aftermath of his death, what is next for Russia in the new stage of late Putinism that Prigozhin's life forged?

we learned nothing about the mutiny or assasination. surely that is the point of writing a book on this guy. some new insight to what happened. But nothing of the kind in this book. A waste of money and time

Historia
What part of your beautiful self were you taught to hate? We spend a lot of time trying to improve our 'defects', according to society's ideals of beauty. But these ideals that are often reductive, tyrannical and commercially entangled, imposed upon us by oppressive systems and further strengthened by our conditioned self-loathing. This book encourages unruliness, exploring the ways in which we can rebel against and subvert the current system.

Historia
We are in a new era: authoritarian leaders have become a central feature of global politics. Since 2000, self-styled strongmen have risen to power in capitals as diverse as Moscow, Beijing, Delhi, Brasilia, Budapest, Ankara, Riyadh and Washington. These leaders are nationalists and social conservatives, with little tolerance for minorities, dissent or the interests of foreigners. At home, they claim to be standing up for ordinary people against globalist elites; abroad, they posture as the embodiments of their nations.

Nice attempt at revisionism
Revisado: 08-14-22
Not only does the Author not blame Merkel for hugely worsening the migrant crisis of 2015, behaving like any strongman in this book when she declared all of Europe, not just Germany, open to migrants and refugees to wander freely from Greece to Ireland and Spain to Norway to choose any country to settle in, he actually places Merkel as the Saviour of the crisis for paying off Erdogan to solve the open borders she instituted. Of course, the subsequent rise of the Far Right, Brexit and all those terror attacks in Europe have nothing to do with Merkels decision either. Europe has just become racist, for no apparent reason, he wants us to believe

Good, but a bit heavy on supernatural explanations
Revisado: 01-30-22
Its a good summary of events, worth getting Watts own excuses. It falls down on the Authors own religious beliefs that are spread heavily throughout the story. So many things and events are put down to Demons, or "god" trying to steer Watts away from his course. For the author, she sees proofs that spirits and ghosts and such imaginary beings are wandering around the house and making their presence known by turning on lights.
She lacks the insight to give a proper analysis of Watts as a person. The monster that he really is, so she attributes guilt and sorrow for his family, that Watts clearly does not have. There are many great youtube expert analysts that give us proper insight to this pyschopath. But if these are Watts letters, then its worth it to get Watts own words

Historia
Since its final episode aired in 2008, HBO's acclaimed crime drama The Wire has only become more popular and influential. The issues it tackled, from the failures of the drug war and criminal justice system to systemic bias in law enforcement and other social institutions, have become more urgent and central to the national conversation. But while there has been a great deal of critical analysis of the show and its themes, until now there has never been a definitive, behind-the-scenes take on how it came to be made.

Eagerly anticipated, but disappointing
Revisado: 03-05-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Narration is a big let down. Which is half the battle in an audiobook. Just because you wrote a book, doesnt mean youre the best person to narrate it. Constantly naming the full names of the people for EVERY quote is quite tiring too. Lifes too short for that.
How could the performance have been better?
Get a different narrator and ease the fuck up on naming the source for quote, for every quote

Ignatus o Reilly is really brought to life. But its only ignatus that holds me to the book. Hes a wonderful character but be prepared for a book that is half as much too long.
