Historia
What's Prison For? examines the “incarceration” part of mass incarceration. Our prisons remain a shameful waste of lives and money, feeding a pathological cycle of poverty, community dysfunction, crime and hopelessness. What is the alternative? This book makes the case for better rehabilitation and examines attempts to assure that people return from prison better equipped than when they arrived for the challenges life presents.

It was ok.

It read like a college lecture. Informative but certainly not captivating. Lots of good ideas.

Was pretty good until starting the BLM and discrimination BS. The facts are one thing. The opinions are another.

Historia
Even for the most ardent skeptic, it's hard not to be curious about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Maybe you've seen the hit musical comedy The Book of Mormon. Maybe you've heard about Holocaust victims and deceased celebrities like Elvis being posthumously baptized in Mormon churches. Or maybe you've come across some other belief or facet of the Mormon faith and can't help but wonder whether the religion is actually as wild as it seems.

Rambling off base and uninteresting
Revisado: 06-01-23
I legitimately wanted to understand Mormonism. The author gets off topic and is rather disrespectful. I wanted neutral information but not crude irreverence.

Author should keep his politics to himself.
Revisado: 05-18-23
The book as a whole was good. Unfortunately the author’s opening political bashings put a dark cloud over the entire book. I liked it but will not further support the author just to give him a personal soap box.

Historia
Attorney Garrett Goodlove never thought he'd prosecute a medical malpractice case. Doctors swear an oath to help people, and those cases are usually honest mistakes blown up by ambulance chasers. But when he learns of a woman bodybuilder who went into the ER with a case of heartburn and came out in a wheelchair, he starts paying attention. It appears the doctor who saw her frequently orders open-heart surgery for patients who don't need it, sometimes leading to disability or death.

Engaging and well written
Revisado: 10-04-21
I’m an ongoing fan of the author. He’s earned that loyalty with his writing. I especially enjoyed this one. It’s a positive ending. A little more storyline after the conclusion of the case would have been nice. But no complaints.

It’s not Grisham
Revisado: 01-03-19
The storyline isn’t bad but could have used more technical input. The characters are difficult to endear oneself to. All in all it fills time on long trips. The performance is pretty good.

All over the place

The twists and turns of the story line are unpredictable to the point of ridiculousness. The events are too far out there to allow any flow.
