Good book, terrible reading

This was a really entertaining read, and a treat for those of us learning Italian, as it's easy to understand and way more fun than a "let's learn Italian book". I look forward to moving on to the sequels!
I have to say though, it really sounds like nobody listened to this recording before they published it! The author is nowhere near as good as an actor would be, which is of course understandable, but there are so many problems with this recording that were not edited out! You can hear him shifting in his seat, making weird swallowing noises, and there are long pauses from when he stopped the recording device that make the flow very weird. It's also hilarious how little space there is between the end of a chapter and the start of the next one, it always startled me and made me laugh. Something like "...and then I turned of the lights and went to sleepNINE!" Haha.
So aside from the terrible sound quality, a great book. Hopefully it got better once they did more of these? Let's find out... :)

Cliffhanger...

Interesting story, and great for learning Italian! Full of twists and turns, though some more predictable than others. Sometimes a bit odd, it's always entertaining. I'd recommend it for sure :)

Funny and smart

I loved hearing about the adventures of Pellegrino Artusi in a funny take on an 1800's mystery novel. As a student of Italian, I appreciate the fact that the reader doesn't speak too fast, so I didn't miss too much... Love the Tuscan accent :)

Alienates both audiences

I didn't hate this book but I didn't understand who exactly it was written for...
It's very grim, dark and gruesome to be a children's book, but it is still a children's story at heart, which makes it not the most stimulating reading for adults. It's too child like for grown-ups, while it is way too violent and twisted for kids. There were some good moments, but overall not a story I will carry with me.
The narrator was excellent however!
