Needs a PG-13 rating for both volumes!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I am so disappointed with these books. The title says “for children,” but it should say for teens as it is not at all appropriate for elementary school aged children. The language such as “badass” “helluva” was unnecessary as were the descriptions of violence (cutting off other players heads, stabbing them in the stomach). I was also appalled to hear a character tell another character something along the lines of if she was afraid of him, “I would just kill myself.” I absolutely do not see how this content is appropriate for children.

Historia
The most horrific struggle of the American Revolution occurred just 100 yards off New York, where more men died aboard a rotting prison ship than were lost to combat during the entirety of the war. Moored off the coast of Brooklyn until the end of the war, the derelict ship, the HMS Jersey, was a living hell for thousands of Americans either captured by the British or accused of disloyalty. Crammed below deck - a shocking one thousand at a time - without light or fresh air, the prisoners were scarcely fed food and water.

Too long
Revisado: 09-11-17
I feel like this could have been much shorter and still accomplished the said thing. It felt too repetitive. I enjoyed the snippets of poetry incorporated throughout.

Historia
An instant New York Times best seller, Dan Lyons' "hysterical" (Recode) memoir, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "the best book about Silicon Valley," takes listeners inside the maddening world of fad-chasing venture capitalists, sales bros, social climbers, and sociopaths at today's tech startups. For 25 years Dan Lyons was a magazine writer at the top of his profession - until one Friday morning when he received a phone call: Poof. His job no longer existed. "I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him.

Really eye opening and entertaining
Revisado: 05-20-17
If you are unfamiliar with this world, it gives you a glimpse into the antics of a tech startup working to go public and the culture clash between its 20-somethings and a middle aged man.

Historia
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Fascinating
Revisado: 05-17-17
This book was far more varied and interesting than I anticipated. It is so much more than a "military" book. I defy anyone to read it, and not take something valuable away.

Not what I was hoping for
Revisado: 04-28-17
I am a total novice, and while learning about the differences between RWD and mobile web was helpful. I could have saved my money and Googled it. Also, the chapter about estimating costs was of zero value. Finally, the person who read it sounded too robotic.

Historia
Death in the City of Light is the gripping, true story of a brutal serial killer who unleashed his own reign of terror in Nazi-Occupied Paris. As decapitated heads and dismembered body parts surfaced in the Seine, Commissaire Georges-Victor Massu, head of the Brigade Criminelle, was tasked with tracking down the elusive murderer in a twilight world of Gestapo, gangsters, resistance fighters, pimps, prostitutes, spies, and other shadowy figures of the Parisian underworld. The main suspect was Dr. Marcel Petiot, a handsome, charming physician with remarkable charisma.

Better to read
Revisado: 03-06-17
This is a fascinating story which I was already familiar with, so the shock value wasn't there for me. Also, there is an incredible amount of detail so I think it would have been easier to keep it straight if I was reading the book rather than listening to it.
