Historia
In The Black Swan Taleb outlined a problem, and in Antifragile he offers a definitive solution: how to gain from disorder and chaos while being protected from fragilities and adverse events. For what Taleb calls the "antifragile" is actually beyond the robust, because it benefits from shocks, uncertainty, and stressors, just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension. The antifragile needs disorder in order to survive and flourish. Taleb stands uncertainty on its head, making it desirable, even necessary, and proposes that things be built in an antifragile manner.

Some jnteresting things, more hypocrisy
Revisado: 01-02-25
To start, there are some interesting ideas in this book. But the author is consistently toxic, incredibly dismissive of anyone who seems to disagree with him, and prone to incredibly broad sweeping statements presented as immortal and self-evident truth, but full of holes.
I can see myself thinking more smartly about risk itself, and striving to examine assumptions better. But the majority of the philosophising in the book put me off as highly contrarian and disagreeable for the sake of being an angry old man.

Historia
John Spencer was a new second lieutenant in 2003 when he parachuted into Iraq leading a platoon of infantry soldiers into battle. During that combat tour he learned how important unit cohesion was to surviving a war, both physically and mentally. He observed that this cohesion developed as the soldiers experienced the horrors of combat as a group. In Connected Soldiers, Spencer delivers lessons learned about effective methods for building teams in a way that overcomes the distractions of home and the outside world, without reducing the benefits gained from connections to family.

Stories from a Soldier
Revisado: 10-21-24
This was a well written memoir from a soldier who spent several deployments in the middle east, both as active duty, and as family to active duty. Personally, I was hoping for a more analytical look at the modern changes to connectivity, and broader information and application than just Army, as I am in the Navy, and have family in the Navy and Marines. It didn't shed any light in that direction, but was still informative, interesting, and well told.

Historia
Renée DiResta’s powerful, original investigation into the way power and influence have been profoundly transformed reveals how a virtual rumor mill of niche propagandists increasingly shapes public opinion. While propagandists position themselves as trustworthy Davids, their reach, influence, and economics make them classic Goliaths—invisible rulers who create bespoke realities to revolutionize politics, culture, and society. Their work is driven by a simple maxim: if you make it trend, you make it true.

Understanding Modern Media
Revisado: 08-28-24
A very well-explained description of the modern media and social media environments, and how the way systems have been established have led to where things are today. Good history about how what we're seeing today mirrors what has happened in the past. Excellent suggestions on a variety of levels of what to do about it.
