Word of a fringe rebellion has been spreading, but getting recruits to sign up is proving to be a challenge. The Collective Unified Forces has put the colonies in a chokehold, restricting all actions and resources. Cut off from their supplies and potential recruits, Captain Aramis Reyne and his two fellow captains devise a reckless plan for getting the resources they need and building a torrent army. With enemies coming at them from every angle, they soon realize that no one, not even the fringe, wants them to succeed.

Aramis Reyne is an old space captain, hounded by arthritis and haunted by memories of war. He makes ends meet by running mail and supplies to the farthest, darkest reaches of the system known as the fringe. When Reyne and his ragtag crew salvage a dead ship during one of their runs, they find themselves thrown into a galactic conspiracy involving warship captains, secret organizations, rebels, and pirates. Reyne must confront wartime ghosts and dust off old skills or else he'll watch thousands die, again.
