Historia
One week with one little girl—an angel, according to my staffing agency. Acting as the short-term nanny for a single dad should have been an easy way to make some extra cash. Until I show up for my first day and face off with a demon disguised as a seven-year-old girl wearing a red tutu and matching glitter slippers. Oh, and her father? My temporary boss? Maddox Holiday. The same Maddox Holiday I crushed on in high school. The same Maddox Holiday who didn’t even know I existed.

Cute but not clean
Revisado: 12-05-23
This could have easily been a clean story. I wasn't familiar with the author and must have misread a review. I'm assuming the next two books are similar so moving on.

Glad I didn't stop after a few chapters
Revisado: 12-01-22
I like books I can listen to regardless of who walks into the room. This had a school teacher using fowl language right from the beginning and I just didn't know if it was worth the listen. But I listened on as the story started to unfold. Then almost stopped again when I didn't know if the inevitable sex scenes were going to be detailed. They were kept behind closed doors so I kept listening. The mystery drew me in as did the discussions of loss and grief. In the end the story had many twists and turns and was a good listen. I would have preferred it without the f-bombs and other exclamations, but I might listen to this one again to see what I missed of the mystery along the way the first time. Definitely at least PG-13.

Historia
Raina Bretton is a rag woman in London's East End when a handsome stranger appears in a dank alley and offers her a glittering smile and a chance for adventure. Rothburne Abbey has a unique position for her, one that will take her away from her hardscrabble life and give her a chance to be a lady. Things she could only dream of might be coming true. But some dreams turn out to be nightmares. Though Raina has traded squalor for silk and satin, something about the abbey is deeply unsettling.

Unexpected twists!
Revisado: 04-12-21
New author to me. I enjoyed the story and the mystery. The narrator was okay except for most of the men having gravelly voices. It was hard to tell the difference between the earl, his uncle, his cousin and the solicitor. However, it was a good listen. And it was a clean read.

First Steampunk read, ever
Revisado: 05-26-20
I enjoy this author's books so I decided to try this other genre though I know very little about anything Steampunk. NCA is a good author. I had a hard time imagining some of what was in this novel because of my lack of understanding of Steampunk. However I enjoyed the characters and especially Beast. I haven't decided whether to read the other books in this series. Again, I love the author but the genre is outside of my interest.

Not a Hallmark movie
Revisado: 12-16-19
I read the reviews before I chose this book - some said it was like a Hallmark Movie, others said it was a Katherine Heigl movie. In the first chapter it was evident it was NOT a Hallmark movie. Between the coarse language and vibrator discussion...well, it is just not a story I will listen to again and I spent most of the 3 hours listening to the book with my finger on the stop button. It also didn't help that 1) they flew from NYC to Albany - why not take the train - a straight shot and probably quicker than flying from Laguardia when you consider travel time to the airport and going through security, etc.2) Rochester and Albany are not 80 miles apart and you are not "practically neighbors" when you are from those 2 cities - the distance is over 200 miles! and 3) the author had to explain why the bride and groom were kissing after everyone tapped their glasses in unison at the rehearsal dinner? Who is the intended audience? Glad it is a quick listen but again, it is not one to pull out and listen to again next Christmas.

Her hero
Revisado: 03-06-19
I have only listened to 4 of the books in this series but I love Virginia's story the best. I cried with her when her husband died in book 2 from TB and my heart hoped for her as she agreed to let Lucas be her protector and they shared their pain from lost loves. Lucas was her hero.

Camp for a week in December
Revisado: 11-28-18
This was a fun story. The characters were real and believable as was the situation. The author created pictures I could see in my head complete with the lovable dog, Max. I think the most touching scenes were with Haley and Gail. I loved seeing their relationship change each of them. This story made me think about my own family traditions from the past and new ones I can add now. I was left wondering if there is a recipe for the cookies with cream cheese frosting and crushed candy canes (I listened to the book, did not read it.) I do hope this author writes more novels, this was such an easy story to listen to and even with my 8 year old in the room. Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this is to be released as a movie in December 2018!

Just okay
Revisado: 11-23-18
I was surprised to find this story slow, moderately believable and in the end finished listening just to finish. I was hoping it would be a book I would want to listen to again, but it was read once and passed along. None of the characters were favorites. Her friend Sophie was annoying and pesky.
