Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

The two narrators were outstanding and made the characters come alive. I was so immersed in this story and loved it so much I didn’t want it to end. This is a must read.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Perspective Changing Story
Revisado: 06-09-21
While we hear so much about police shooting and killing black men and women, this tells the side of the story we don’t hear in the media. Star gives voice to the people and communities impacted by this violence. The characters are compelling and so well developed. The narration is outstanding, one of the best I have listened to. This is a must read.

In 1965, 18-year old Lew Alcindor played basketball for Coach John Wooden at UCLA. It was the beginning of what was to become a 50-year long relationship. On the court they broke basketball records. Off the court they transcended their athletic achievements to gain even wider recognition and tremendous national respect.

I have tears streaming down my face as I write this review. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Coach Wooden are two remarkable men and this story is beautifully and poignantly told by Abdul-Jabbar. You don’t have to be a basketball fan or even an athlete to enjoy this story. It’s about a man who lived his life simply with love, gratitude and optimism. It will change your life for the better.

Fantastic story and series
Revisado: 01-24-18
I have loved all three books in the series. They are fun and lighthearted. The characters are wonderful and the storyline is clever and engaging. The book is also laugh out loud funny but with serious issues as well. My only issue is I preferred the narrator from the first book over the one who did the second two.

Historia
Audie Award, Humor, 2016. In Furiously Happy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.

Listen to this book!
Revisado: 01-02-16
This book made our long road trip so enjoyable. And after reading her first book, Let's Pretend That Never Happened (which was awesome!) we so looked forward to our recent trip so we could listen to Furiously Happy. This book is immensely entertaining and funny but also very poignant. She talks very honestly about her struggle with mental illness and her message is relevant to everyone. I highly recommended both of her books. And the fact that she performs it makes it so much better.

Historia
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Wonderful story and beautifully read!
Revisado: 07-26-15
Jenna Lamia and Adepero Oduye were incredible narrators and they made the story come alive. Sue Monk Kidd took two very important historical figures and told their story in a compelling way. The reader was left with a much greater understanding of these women, the time in which they lived and the abolition and women's movements of the 19th C. It was brilliantly done.

Historia
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies of success. We’re told that learning is all self-discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that presentation, or nail that piano recital. But what if almost everything we were told about learning is wrong?

Revisado: 04-08-15
I am a high school teacher and coach and I learned a great deal from this book and it had changed they way I teach and coach. What I really liked about the book is how it turned conventional wisdom about leaning on its head. For example he talks about how you have to forget to leave. Meaning that forgetting is an important part of learning new things.

Historia
For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut. Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Historia
A compelling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity, In One Person is a story of unfulfilled love—tormented, funny, and affecting—and an impassioned embrace of our sexual differences. Billy, the bisexual narrator and main character of In One Person, tells the tragicomic story (lasting more than half a century) of his life as a “sexual suspect,” a phrase first used by John Irving in 1978 in his landmark novel of “terminal cases,” The World According to Garp.

Another fabulous John Irving novel!
Revisado: 01-30-13
When I first began the book I thought oh this is just like so many other Irving novels but then the plot really developed and took an interesting and very political turn. The characters were wonderful and it was very engaging. I really enjoyed the historical nature of the stroy especially the overview of the AIDs epidemic in the 1980s.
