Historical part was great, characters didn’t have much depth in them, but liked it overall.

Historia
It has been almost 10 years since Matthias graduated from the elite Blackburne School, where his roommate and best friend, Fritz, fled into the woods, never to be heard from again, in the middle of their senior year. Fritz vanished just after an argument over Matthias' breaking of the school's honor code, and Matthias has long been haunted by the idea that his betrayal led to his friend's disappearance. When he is offered the opportunity to return to Blackburne as an English teacher, he sees it as a chance to put his life back together.

Is it offensive to described a murder mystery-thriller as “cute”? That’s how I felt about this one 🤷🏽♀️. A boy goes missing an an all-boys school, and years later his friend is still looking for him. I like it, good amount of suspense.

Historia
A waitress at the Betsy Ross Diner, Elsie hopes her nickel-and-dime tips will add up to a new life. Seventeen years later, headstrong and independent Luljeta receives a rejection letter from NYU and her first-ever suspension from school on the same day. Instead of striking out on her own in Manhattan, she's stuck in Connecticut with her mother, Elsie - a fate she refuses to accept.

A story about mothers pushing their daughters to get into Ivy League schools. Reminded me a lot of “The Gifted School”. #BookTwitter #booktwt

Tragic and beautiful
Revisado: 02-05-23
I was completely heart broken by the end of this, and found myself weeping multiple times as the story unfolded.
The price women paid and are still paying for/during childbirth is unbelievable. Each woman has her story, no matter how easy her labor was, and this book is all about the childbirth story of one woman, and its consequences.

Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Historia
In turn-of-the-20th century Texas, the Berachah Home for the Redemption and Protection of Erring Girls is an unprecedented beacon of hope for young women consigned to the dangerous poverty of the streets by birth, circumstance, or personal tragedy. Built in 1903 on the dusty outskirts of Arlington, a remote dot between Dallas and Fort Worth’s red-light districts, the progressive home bucks public opinion by offering faith, training, and rehabilitation to prostitutes, addicts, unwed mothers, and “ruined” girls without forcibly separating mothers from children.

Historical timeline is beautiful
Revisado: 01-31-23
but the contemporary timeline was a bit "meh" :(
The historical timeline is done beautifully. It is so well-researched and so rich in details and emotions, I loved these chapters.
*however*, the other timeline that takes place in 2017, wasn't really working for me. It was very slow and predictable even. I honestly did not find much interest in the story (I mean, it was a nice story but I wasn't "hooked"). And the ending was very hollywood like.

Two female math proteges, two toxic relationships
Revisado: 01-27-23
100 years apart.
I think the best way to describe the book is "Convenience Store Woman" and "My Dark Vanessa" combined together?
Main Character is a bit odd, which sets the tone for the entire story. She struggles with understanding love and healthy relationships, and yet, she is so optimistic and lovely, it's just heard not to root for her.
