Very nice offshoot of the Krewe of Hunters. It can totally be read as a stand-alone, however. The narrator did a fantastic job with the variety of characters and accents. Definitely easy to follow who was talking.

I’m not sure if this resonated so deeply for me because I, like Emily and her “friends”, was a member of the class of 1982. All I know was that it did. All of the scenes from 1981 and ‘82 were so very familiar and somewhat poignant. I felt deeply for Emily and her plight and kept hoping her mystery would be solved by the end. It was.

I will say that, after beginning this book, I doublechecked the author’s website to see if it was part of a series because it had that feel to it. As if it were picking up where a different book had ended. It was definitely listed in the stand alone section of titles and it can definitely be enjoyed as such. However, I have now discovered that we first meet Andrea in Pieces of Her, which appears to be about her mother, Laura. As it’s part of Audible’s current 2-for-1 credit sale, I grabbed it and will be listening to it next. Reading/listening/watching things in order is a quirk of mine.

However, whether you’ve read or listened to that book, I can honestly recommend Girl, Forgotten. Maybe especially if, like me, you experienced high school in the early 1980s.

Wow. Just wow. I’d had this book on my wish list for a long time but couldn’t make myself buy it. Then Audible added it to the Plus catalog for a short time so I added it. Today, I decided to take the plunge and started listening. And I pretty much didn’t stop until it was over. There are twists and turns and then there are more. I totally never saw the ending coming. Hoover has a way of pulling you in completely, making you feel everything that’s happening, like you were there, too. I rarely write up full reviews for my books but this one compelled me to do so. Because I should have bought it instead of putting it on my wishlist. It’s totally worth it. And the two narrators did a fabulous job, helping to bring life to the words on the page.

Quarter to Midnight begins a new “series” set in New Orleans, filled with a fantastic set of new characters to get to know and love. The only characters from previous Rose books, Andre and Farrah, show up as supporting characters. Stepping away from her usual cast of FBI agents and police detectives, our main characters are a private detective and a chef. The mystery, which takes us back to the events during and after Katrina, is intriguing and well developed. The supporting cast of characters gives us several possibilities for further books in the series and is filled with characters you’d like to sit down with over a slice of Gabe’s famous chocolate cake. As is always the case when I finish a book by Karen Rose, I can’t wait for the next one.

Nora Roberts is an auto buy for me. I usually don’t even read the blurb before ordering. That said, I had my doubts when I read the description for this one. But, since it was Nora, I went for it. And really shouldn’t be surprised that it was wonderful. A full cast of characters and locations you come to love (or hate, as the case may be). Will Damron did an excellent job on the narration. His different voices and accents fit perfectly and really made the characters come to life. A great story, all around.

Another Heart-warming story by Shalvis

I’ve been a fan of Shalvis for a long time and really enjoy her Wildstone series, where she tackles weightier subject matter while still managing to keep things somewhat lighthearted and there’s always a HEA. This entry does not disappoint. It deals with larger issues of abandonment, foster care, and guilt, among others, while still showing the importance of family, however it’s made, and the bonds that exist between members. Here we get a look into the relationships between Maze, Walker, Caitlin, and Heather, whose bonds were forged during one momentous year they spent as family and how the tragic end to that year continues to affect them years later. Set around the events during the week before Caitlin’s wedding, secrets and truths come out, and bonds are forged deeper than ever, especially for Maze. I devoured this in a single sitting after getting my hands on the audiobook. Erin Mallon does a fantastic job on the narration, using distinct voices for each character. Her sense of timing and pace are spot on, making the story a fantastic listen. If you’re a Shalvis fan, you won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t experienced her yet, pick this one up and you’re sure to find a new favorite author.

I’ve been a long time fan of Andi Arndt so I had to grab this book for a listen, especially when I saw she co-wrote it. It did not disappoint! As someone who was born in Iowa and lived the majority of my first 34 years there, I could identify with much. Not only did the book have fun poking gently at some of those midwestern tropes, it was just plain laugh out loud funny. I lost track of the number of times I actually laughed out loud. I was barely three chapters in before I texted a friend, another Andi fan, to tell her she had to listen. I can only hope this won’t be the last time this duo works together!

I don’t normally write up a full review but this book was so good I had to. I spent pretty much the entire book laughing out loud. The characters, their interactions, everything was just so funny. And believable. Well, at least I could believe it but my family is a little whacked. Although not as much as these guys. Between friends, family, a fiancé you love to hate, besties pretending to be something they’re not...the whole book was just fabulous. And the narration by Nick Podehl and Amy McFadden was spot on. They each voiced multiple characters fabulously. Now, I must go listen to the next book in the series to find out what happens next with this whacky group of screwballs!

I bought this book because Andi Arndt and Sebastian York are two of my favorite narrators. They did a fantastic job as usual but the heroine, Lana, just annoyed me beyond words. I came really close to just giving up on the book because I just couldn’t stand the way she thought and put a negative spin on almost everything. The culminating fight, which came at a point when she really should have known the hero better and trusted him, almost pushed me to not finish listening. It was all I could do to make it through the final hour and I only persisted because I hate not finishing a book. If I had been the hero, who was a great guy and who bent over backward for her, I’d have had not only second but third and maybe fourth thoughts.

The only negative thing I have to say is that we now have to wait for the next installment in this series. When I read the description, I was worried it would seem like a light version of The Stand. I should have known better. Roberts knocks it out of the park and leaves you wanting more. I really hope that we get updates on our old friends in New Hope when the next book comes out. The narration was truly excellent and succeeded in giving each character their own voice. A great job, all around.
