Still fun but more cluttered and dragged in a few places. Hope the next one is more in line with the previous entries. Teasers in the epilogue are encouraging.

Not a huge fan of radio teleplay style entries and generally prefer narrative verse but I made an exception to hear Marsters, Carpenter, Heard, et al reprise their roles and they made the effort to hit all the right notes for us.

Purchased as soon as it was released purely because I loved every thing I’ve read by the author. All the humor and originality of the varying genres he’s done won my confidence. So bad on me for blindly rushing to buy a flat and lifeless Wikipedia page of mythical creatures. As interesting as being chained to a chair at a high school graduation without a relative in the ceremony.

Gave it 6 chapters and 2 hours and the characters are still mucking about without getting to the point. That’s a quarter of the book before I gave up and went on to something more promising.

Plays a bit like “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead” in that we essentially listen to Le’Morte De Arthur from a bystanders POV. I preferred the first 2 books but if you’re up for the homage, it won’t disappoint.

Well written in that you have empathy for the characters as their tribulations unfold, human or otherwise

Some fun ideas but at times the author wanders in deliberately nonsense character discussions like he’s trying to reach a word count for an assignment. That gets tedious. Also characters that have no rational reason to use 20th century idioms do so on too many occasions. If you don’t mind those elements, it can be a fair diversion.

Not awful, just dull and terribly, painfully unfunny. And the big confrontation with Hades it builds up to? Feels like a word count was reached and the author went with the fastest way to end it regardless of the rest of the book.

Really wanted to like this and it does have a few cute elements but overall a big disappointment. The hero never really develops and remains a lazy, dense, dipstick throughout the 3 stories. The performance however makes it worse. While the narrator has a perfectly fine voice for the lead, he distracts from virtually every other character. A roach consistently described by the author as having a high squeaky voice is given a deep guttural sound, the store manager sounds like an elementary school over the top Dracula, and it’s hard to visualize the beautiful Marylyn Monroe look a like when she sounds a bit like Roz from Monsters Inc. Worst of all the narrator takes every opportunity to make the sound effects throughout the story which is both distracting and supremely annoying.

Had a few nice original elements but overall predictable as it worked toward its conclusion. Worst of all our heroes are morons missing clues and consequences painfully obvious to the reader.
