Like Gossip Girl?
Revisado: 05-30-19
Then you will be greatly disappointed. The whole story is like a poor man’s version of a Gossip Girl plot. At least it’s free. I would have been really upset if I had used a credit on this.

Historia
Kim Lord is an avant garde figure, feminist icon, and agent provocateur in the LA art scene. Her groundbreaking new exhibition, Still Lives, is comprised of self-portraits depicting herself as famous murdered women - the Black Dahlia, Chandra Levy, Nicole Brown Simpson, among many others - and the works are as compelling as they are disturbing, implicating a culture that is too accustomed to violence against women.

Don’t waste a credit...
Revisado: 08-16-18
...unless you enjoy boring, drawn out books with no major plot and too many characters. I found myself spacing out and thinking about a million different things during this book. And I still got the gist of it. The main character is so vanilla, whiny, and boring, that you find you don’t even care what happens to her! What a waste of a credit!

Another Weak Woman!
Revisado: 06-22-18
I’m not sure what it is, but lately every book I read has a weak woman for a lead. A woman who lies to her partner, makes poor choices, and whom we are expected to not only relate to, but feel sorry for. I spent most of the book yelling at the main character for being so weak!
Where are all the smart female characters?!??

Amazing Performance
Revisado: 02-09-18
Dan Stevens proves what a talent he is by voicing all of the characters in this book! It was captivating and even though I have read this book previously, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it!!

Historia
The People We Hate at the Wedding is the story of a less than perfect family. Donna, the clan’s mother, is now a widow living in the Chicago suburbs with a penchant for the occasional joint and more than one glass of wine with her best friend while watching House Hunters International. Alice is in her thirties, single, smart, beautiful, stuck in a dead-end job where she is mired in a rather predictable, though enjoyable, affair with her married boss. Her brother Paul lives in Philadelphia with his older, handsomer, tenured track professor boyfriend.

No one is likeable
Revisado: 10-09-17
My biggest problem with this book was that there was not one likeable character! It is very hard to enjoy a book when not only do you not care about what happens to the characters, but you kind of wish something bad would happen to them. I really just wanted this book to end. The performance of the narrator was excellent. It was just a bad story.

Historia
When Beth arrives in DC, she hates everything about it: the confusing traffic circles, the ubiquitous Ann Taylor suits, the humidity that descends each summer. At dinner parties, guests compare their security clearance levels. They leave their BlackBerrys on the table. They speak in acronyms. And once they realize Beth doesn't work in politics, they smile blandly and turn away.

Meh
Revisado: 06-15-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I'm not really sure. I do enjoy "frivolous" reading from time to time, however this one felt like a waste of time.
What was most disappointing about Jennifer Close’s story?
I did not care for, or even enjoy, any of the characters with the exception of the "bad guy". The main character was a wuss and I found myself wanting to yell at her to grow a back bone.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jorjeana Marie’s performances?
No, I did not enjoy her narration. It sounded like she had something in her mouth the whole time and it was very distracting.
What character would you cut from The Hopefuls?
All of them except Jimmy!
Any additional comments?
While I did not have high expectations, I did find myself wishing I had used my credit elsewhere...

Overly Descriptive
Revisado: 02-08-17
I really liked the story, however I felt that it was, at times, overly descriptive. Had I been reading an actual book, I would have skimmed over most of the descriptions about the house. The narration was great!
