Historia
John Hodgman - New York Times best-selling author, semifamous personality, deranged millionaire, increasingly elderly husband, father, and human of Earth - has written a memoir about his cursed travels through two wildernesses: from the woods of his home in Massachusetts, birthplace of rage, to his exile on the coast of Maine, so-called Vacationland, home to the most painful beaches on Earth.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

The perfect follow-up to Alcohol Explained!
Revisado: 02-25-23
I was so happy with my results after listening to the Alcohol Explained audiobook that I didn’t hesitate to get the follow-up audiobook, and I’m so glad I did. While there were no gaps in the first book, the second goes deeper, while being just as well written and informative. I listened to the first audiobook in four days, and finished this one in just two. After 35 years as a regular drinker, I can confidently say (just six days in) that I am so much happier and healthier not drinking, and will not drink again. William Porter’s Alcohol Explained and Alcohol Explained 2 books were the difference between success and failure for me. Nick Jermyn was the perfect narrator for these books and content. I highly recommend both books - they really were life-changing!

Best in the field!
Revisado: 02-23-23
I have read many books about drinking, alcohol and alcoholism. Some I didn’t finish: some I finished but took no action to stop drinking; a few I finished and took action to stop drinking but failed to sustain my abstinence, a couple I finished, took action to stop drinking, and succeeded for a period of days or weeks before returning to alcohol. This is the first book I have read/listened to that actually helped me succeed in the longer term. It is very interesting and also scarily accurate in its description of why I (used to) drink and the effects of that drinking. I am so grateful to William Porter for writing Alcohol Explained, and to the Universe for throwing it in my path exactly when I needed it most. I cannot recommend this book enough - to alcoholics, regular drinkers, occasional drinkers, and to anyone who wants to understand the drinker in their life. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.

Historia
Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”

Revisado: 12-12-20
The first time I tried Breathe into Rejuvenation, I had the best, most rejuvenating sleep I have experienced in many years. My heart rate dropped well below my resting heart rate (a good thing for me, as I often have bad dreams that raise my heart rate while I sleep). I highly recommend listening to this one!

Historia
Twenty years ago Bill Bryson went on a trip around Britain to celebrate the green and kindly island that had become his adopted country. The hilarious book that resulted, Notes from a Small Island, was taken to the nation’s heart and became the best-selling travel book ever and was voted in a BBC poll the book that best represents Britain. Now, to mark the 20th anniversary of that modern classic, Bryson makes a brand-new journey around Britain to see what has changed.
