Historia
Evgeny Prigozhin emerged as one of the most dangerous warlords in the world and as one of Vladimir Putin's chief rivals in Russia's tumultuous political climate, exiled after leading Wagner's attempted coup and killed in a mysterious plane crash. But what is the truth about this enigmatic figure, his role in the war with Ukraine, and the chaos unleashed across Russia by his turn against Putin? And, the aftermath of his death, what is next for Russia in the new stage of late Putinism that Prigozhin's life forged?

concise and clearly explained
Revisado: 06-19-24
If you are familiar with the previous books, this one falls in the same line. It does not add too much to what already written or shown elsewhere, but the brilliance of the book lies in its fine lines connecting the dots. All in all, well worth the purchase.

Historia
Sixty percent of humanity - some four-point-three billion people - live in debilitating poverty. The standard development narrative suggests that alleviating poverty in poor countries is a matter of getting the internal policies right, combined with aid from rich countries. But anthropologist Jason Hickel argues that this approach misses the broader political forces at play. Global poverty - and the growing divide between "developing" and "developed" countries - has to do with how the global economy has been designed over the course of 500 years. Global inequality doesn't just exist; it has been created.

Historia
Climate crisis is the single biggest threat to human survival. And it is happening right now. We all understand that time is running out - but do we truly believe it? And, caught between the seemingly unimaginable and the apparently unthinkable, how can we take the first step towards action, to arrest our race to extinction? We can begin with our knife and fork. The link between farming animals and the climate crisis is barely discussed, because giving up our meat-based diets feels like an impossible ask. But we don't have to go cold turkey.

it felt like someone tried to transform a high school essay into a PhD thesis. it doesn't work like this.
the author has a vast field of knowledge, he most likely is one of the top leaders of his generation, there is no denial in that, but this book is a mashed mixture of bits and pieces that are not connected in any way. everyone knows about climate change, everyone knows that they should cut down on meat and buying useless stuff, so I'm not really sure what this book is all about, honestly.
the narration is very good, so credit is given where due.

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

5-star rating for a 1-star human being
Revisado: 07-05-20
First things first: as correctly pointed out but some media outlets, John Bolton fails to understand that he was the servant of the president (not the man per se, but the position itself); it's a clear case of "my way or the highway", from Russia to Syria, North Korea to Japan. And we're not talking about the brightest bulb of the chandelier here, either; on Venezuela, only the US is able to bring freedom and democracy, but not Russia or China. On what grounds this statement is made, remains a mystery. Just like Iraq 15 years ago.
Having said that, this book is a must read for everyone interested not necessarily in Trump, but rather the world politics; you'll quickly find out that most of the world leaders are a bunch of idiots trying to play chess using checkers rules. Better yet, very loud public composed of slightly retarded humans is not only allowed, but hired for advice. There, you know what's this book all about.
The sad truth revealed in this book is that no one really cares about little people. About the planet. About its future. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that it all happened to serve "my best interest", where "my" can be the US, Donald Trump, or John Bolton. But never the greater good for all people.
Birds of feather flock together is pretty much the summary of this book.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Historia
The Code of the Extraordinary Mind is a blueprint of laws to break us free from the shackles of ordinary life. It makes a case that everything we know about the world is mostly decided not by rational choice but instead by conditioning and habit. And thus most people live their lives based on limiting rules and outdated beliefs about pretty much everything - love, work, money, parenting, sex, health, and more - that they inherit and pass on from generation to generation.

why did I give 5 stars to a 1-star book?
Revisado: 12-12-18
I have no idea how I got to this title (I paid for it, so something made me do it, cannot remember what, though), only to discover that is one of those things that I absolutely hate: yet another book on self-development and all that bull...jazz. I simply cringe when I hear words like life coach, communication skills, NLP, and alike.
so one star from me, thank you.
then I got bored and gave it a try while driving: just wow! I still cringe when I hear life coach and alike, I doubt I'll apply too much of Vishen's ideas, but I do have to admit that the guy brought me back to my Malaysia happy times, a decade ago; it's there where I met a ton of Vishens, just like this guy. they all have to work and study three times harder just to succeed, because they are not natives. all of them brilliant, humble, polite, you name it. by their simple presence they made you feel humble.
back to the book: again, it's not my soup, BUT!, if you are into things like how to change your life, listen, conversation, you name it, then this is the book for you. I have read/listened to many, Simon Sinek being the latest (I returned it, yet again another one that dresses up words, but that's about it), and I can tell you that this is the best by a mile.
subject for me would be 1 star, you spiritual healer, life coach, you, but the book made me think about some things - it's a first for me, I have to admit.
so yes, it's a buy.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?
