Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likable: he only kills bad people.

lack of substance
Revisado: 12-07-24
I liked season 1 of dexter on hbo. this is the 1st time I've ever said the book was NOT better. there was such light foreshadowing of end, similar to the show but here it fell lacking and as though he decided an hour before conclusion of how it would end. three was humor but it was much less than the show and for a silly serial killer story it was missing, silly doesn't entertain without substance and humor.

Historia
A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway. She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup’s victims whose remains were never found. Writer David Thorne still hasn’t recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her. Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost. But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily.

Wow. I didn't see that coming!
Revisado: 08-29-23
the watchers was my first Koontz novel. it was better than this book.
however this was a very very solid read. I obviously don't want to spill any thing so I'll say he started off strong and it gets a bit weaker in the middle but looking back all that was important info. there isn't much fluff in this story. and the finish! Koontz knows how to satisfy an ending.
one thing that's over done was "how could it be Emily... or is it Madison or is it Emily or is it Madison..." he really presses that button a lot but it's not obnoxious.
in fact! my wife was making fun of me a few days ago and I tripped out because she had the voice, cadence, laugh and sweetness of my first girlfriend I haven't seen in 26 years. it was a crazy experience and helped me get into the eerie nature of David's mania.
give it a listen.

emotional female voice is horrid
Revisado: 02-26-22
I don't think I can finish this book. The reader is damn near on an emotional breakdown as she pleads out these words like she's begging for dear life. yuuuck. Just say the words, why are whining?
Also, there is a "do this" type attitude. As in "relax and be mindful" Yeah, no crap lady. The trick is HOW to relax. What to focus on, exercises to practice, etc. not mentioned why not just say "cum multiple times and then do it again."
I'll update this if I can get through this drivel without smashing my phone.

Narrator of the Gods
Revisado: 05-16-21
Patrick started off slow and then really sucked me right into this world he built. I started this book about 4 times and then went to something else. came back, left etc. I found it hard to care about the first few chapters.
I'm so glad I kept trying. Once the "story" begins it's a real page turner.
Usually with Audible there are characters or view point characters where the narrator struggles with voices. (Enders Game was the worst, I found speeding up the female voice to 1.75 made her sound normal.)
The narrator of this book was hands down the most skilled in all aspects of narration. Absolutely amazing. He possibly even made the original work better.
The female voices which are usual distracting when voiced by a male(and vice versa) were seemless. the accents, particularly the Russian accent was flawless.
I hope it's the same author for the other two books in this series. oh yeah, it's a 3 book series.
this is a solid pick for your Audible collection if you like this type of fiction.

decent so far
Revisado: 12-27-20
from the female character pov, the male character voice was/is laughable. it's the most childish version of an impression ever. she tries to lower her voice to make it more masculine sounding... it's so absurd it's laughable.
also, her tone is not serious enough in the parts where it needs to be. writing is decent. I should have tried this in written form.
I bet it would be a much different story.
OK, I finished the book now. There is no ending. The book just stops. no conclusion. no reveal. no satisfaction to character arcs... where is the last half of this book? who could think this is a book? it's a joke. the first 3 or 6 chapters were a great start then....

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. must ff thru parts
Revisado: 12-27-20
loved this book. Everything about it. I'm only writing this to tell you to speed up the parts with Valentine's reader. she had a way of making every single thing she says the most sad and important thing you'll ever hear. it's unbearable! however, if you speed just her parts up to about 1.4 speed she sounds normal. seriously. you gotta try it. I'm was almost convinced they slowed her recording down. anyway when you speed it up it fixes it completely.
enjoy.

I made a mistake buying this.
Revisado: 11-28-20
I loved Enders Game and later loved listening to it. I only had one complaint, the voice of Enders sister was/ is disgusting to me. the voice itself is nice, but the way she draws out the words and bleeds emotion on every single word of every single sentence turns my stomach. I've never heard a woman speak like this in my 63 yrs on earth. the closest I can relate to it was a bipolar psychopath I dated some 58 yes ago, and even she didn't menstruate her words constantly.
Imagine my delight when I hear this voice again in chapter one. I pray this character dies a quick death or I'm afraid I won't be able to finish the chapter.
Again, the sound of her voice is pleasant enough but the voice acting is a thing of nightmares. If I was given a choice of marring this voice or never hearing sound again or would be sign language/ lip reading classes for me.
I want this voice to be tortured. I know I sound insane, but it's unnatural and shouldn't be allowed to obfuscate the minds of others and influence their speech patterns. It needs to be sent back to hell from whence it came!
Otherwise, I have high hopes for this story.
