1. This is a personal/professional development book that gives the reader the freedom and flexibility to choose their own path as they explore each chapter. Although I read the book in sequential order, I can and will choose chapters that are relevant to current happenings in my career and life.
2. The use of personal narratives to set the stage and ground the reader within the context of the content discussed, made the application of the content very relatable. I found myself reflecting on my own experiences and how I could apply the strategies to them.
3. Empathy as a superpower resonated with me because it is a great tool for people management and interpersonal relationships.
4. “The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.” Discovering your why is never easy. “A winding yellow brick road of detours, discoveries, and the eventual clarity that comes from embracing the unexpected.” This is life. This is my life, and this may be the life of many. The guidance and strategies discussed for navigating the nonlinear events of life that can lead us to our purpose were beneficial. Often times we start our journey thinking we’re on a particular path but things change. Strategies for developing the emotional intelligence necessary to embracing change along this journey are key.
5. Unlikely mentors is a great way to describe challenging work dynamics. There are some good points given for managing and learning from those relationships.

Overall I enjoyed this read. Pick it up, buy it for friends, colleagues, or someone who could use a little helping with developing emotional intelligence.
