For a truly portable ‘French’ experience you’re going to have to knock some holes in the language barrier. No, this program won’t qualify you as a professional interpreter/translator. No program will. But this Smartphone French 1 Intensive audio program could make you conversational in French while greatly improving the quality of your waiting time, traffic time, red light and train time, and the 101 other frustrating and time-wasting experiences we have to endure daily.

Imagine learning to speak French and not having to invest one minute of quality time to learn all of it. Just take this handy and portable program around with you on your smartphone wherever you go, use it while you wait, and you're sure to learn French and “enjoy the process” as they say in the program.

Don't worry about not understanding either. I was delighted to find that the lessons all come with immediate English equivalents and a native French instructor so there is nothing to look up. No mindless repetition either. Just a lot of thoughtful memory review and sentence building exercises that I found to be highly entertaining. These four-plus hours of French lessons will teach you to eat well, travel smart and to do a whole bunch of other things all the while learning to speak French while you’re in traffic, while waiting for a cake to bake, even while watching your kid at soccer practice.

Speaking in complete sentences and with the correct pronunciation is the goal of this Smartphone French 1 Intensive program. And remember … It doesn't matter if you don't have time to learn French. This program is MADE to teach French to people who don't have any spare time at all. That's why I recommend you try it. It really worked for me and has become my constant companion.

Would you listen to Smartphone Italian 1 Intensive again? Why?

I HAVE listened to it again...and again...and again. And I'm not through YET.

The narrator begins the program by describing it as ‘survival Italian.’ It's “survival” in two ways. The first is in the portable design of the approach which makes learning to speak Italian easy while you're busily doing stuff and moving aroundThe second is that it teaches the things you need to know to get around.

Come on. Most people don’t have the time or the money for an extended stay in a foreign country. Most people are not going to live with a foreign family for weeks or months and learn all the things about the language and culture that they would learn over such a long period of time. Most of us do well to have a week or two of vacation in some faraway place. While we’re there we need to know about food and transportation and accommodations. Meet, greet, eat, sleep, and travel around. This Italian course seems to have all of that pretty much covered. Speaking of eating, how could you go to Italy and not savor some of the authentic Italian cuisine? The final segment of this smartphone audio program talks a lot about that very topic.

Like it or not, before long it’s time to board the plane and go back home. I think that if you spend some commuting or waiting hours with this highly portable and intensive Italian language program your Italian travel adventure will be more meaningful, while you’re there and after you get back home, than if you spend all of your time in Italy following a tour guide and letting other people translate everything for you. If you don’t at least try to communicate with the ‘natives’ while you’re on their turf, seeing their sites, and eating their food, you’re going to miss out on a lot of the fun. I know that learning the material that this program presents will amuse you during your down time at the gym, the dentist's office and in traffic, and will also turn a so-so Italy experience into a much, much better one.

What made the experience of listening to Smartphone Spanish 1 Intensive the most enjoyable?

Challenging enough to keep my attention but not too difficult to keep up with.

I wish that I would have had this amazingly portable audio program when I was taking high school Spanish. I did pretty well in class, but all those good grades didn’t result in my being able to communicate very well in Spanish. If I could have learned to actually speak Spanish while I was waiting for red lights and orthodontist appointments I would have been flying high.
Smartphone Spanish 1 Intensive has a pretty informal style but it is obviously not thrown together haphazardly. Those who have never studied Spanish can follow along pretty easily but it is not too much for those at a more intermediate level, especially people like me who did pretty well in classroom Spanish but never learned to speak it. There is a brief but helpful explanation, a good reminder for me, about the difference between the Spanish verbs ‘ser’ and ‘estar’, both of which mean ‘to be’ in English. It uses a variety of speakers who obviously speak Spanish as a native language.
Textbooks are great for what they are, but you can't drive and read. Smartphone Spanish is obviously designed for learning on the go. A few audio lessons won’t make you totally fluent, but I believe that just using Smartphone Spanish regularly during your waiting and commuting time should have you speaking Spanish conversationally faster than you or anyone else could ever expect. I can hear my own progress every time I listen to the program.
