SPOILERS!! But you might want to know…
Revisado: 03-11-24
If you are an animal lover, WARNING this book may not be for you!
AGAIN, MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS!!!!!!!
The ending is heartbreaking. All of these dragons that they hatch and raise from babies, who are only doing what is in their nature, not even trying to hurt anybody, just take stuff to give to their owner, which is what they think they are supposed to be doing, are killed by our so-called heroes because of just that. Mostly gleefully. There is about 10 seconds thrown in at one point where he feels a bit of guilt, but goes right on killing them and says “sorry, nothing personal”. And we as readers are supposed to be happy that he’s doing it. They are basically portrayed as things, not living creatures. I know dragons aren’t real, of course, but in this story they act just like other real animals would, so it feels real, and it feels gross listening to them getting picked off one by one.

What kind of boring ending was that?
Revisado: 10-11-23
What on earth happened to this series? There was zero climax. The whole thing felt like the slow middle of a story, then just…stopped. I kept waiting for something big to happen, but nothing ever did. I’ve never read a series ending book with literally NO climax whatsoever. So weird. Just boring. And then it ended on a weird cliff hanger. What on earth was the point of that? And don’t give me the whole “It’s so you can use your own imagination to finish the story” line. If I wanted to do that, I’d write my own book. I don’t read books so I can finish the story for the author. That’s their job, not mine. All in all very disappointing. I did like the male narrators, though. Cassia still sounded like a 12 year old reading a story to her little sister, but after three books I’m used to that. The guys were really good, though.

Is the narrator ACTUALLY a 12 year old?
Revisado: 10-02-23
Oof, this narrator. She made the characters sound so young, that it sounded like they actually got a kid to do the narration, not just somebody who sounds like a kid. Seriously these 17 year olds having this whole dramatic story sounded like 10 year olds. The 10 year old little brother sounded like a 3 year old.
Other than that, it was your average, typical, dystopian/false utopian/love triangle story. Very predictable, VERY trope-heavy, but not awful. A decent story if you can get past knowing exactly what’s going to happen. Don’t expect any wild twists or turns. Maybe those will be in the next book?

Historia
Everything I’d known about the world was a lie. On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry (yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask), received my inheritance: a bag of sand. And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think!

Fun, and humorously strange.
Revisado: 12-31-22
I really enjoyed this story! I tend to prefer slightly darker, ya dystopians or fantasies, but sometimes I need a little mind cleanse from the serous stuff and grab something more lighthearted. This fit the bill perfectly for that. There were times it actually made me chuckle out loud a bit. Fantastic performance by the narrator. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that the constant self deprecation from the Alcatraz just got to be a little much. I didn’t mind it at first, and it added well to the story at the beginning. But eventually it started to get a little bit repetitive and old. If you’re saying a lot of things such as “Like I said”, or “as I said before”, you might want to think about why you’re saying it again and again and if it really needs to be repeated. Again. If it was way far back in the book and the author just wanted to refresh the memory, that’s fine and helpful. If it’s something you just heard 5 minutes ago, and 10 minutes before that, etc, it’s a bit much.
BUT that didn’t take away from the story enough for me not to enjoy it! Still a great listen.

Great story! Not crazy about narration.
Revisado: 11-28-13
As much as I can't stand roaches, I didn't think I would be able to get past it and enjoy the book, but I did! They are quite lovable in this book :) A great story, with awesome characters, and wonderful twists and turns. Flows very well and is very easy to follow. The only thing I'm not crazy about is Paul Boehmer as a narrator. He is ok, I guess, but his voice for two year old Boots REALLY irks me unfortunately. He makes her sound like a creepy breathy old woman. Not even close to a two year old. And her "ge-go" is supposed to be the way she says 'Gregor' but he makes it sound like more of a strange sentence add on and doesn't pronounce it like a two year old would. But he does pretty good with the roaches, I guess. And as far as the other characters go, he pretty much just uses his own voice, not much difference in character. But I got used to it and still was able to enjoy the story :)

wonderful story, wasn't crazy about the narrator.
Revisado: 01-13-12
Lasky does it again with this amazing series. The story is gripping and every bit as good as the ga'hoole series. I do have to say that I am not crazy about the narrator. His "voice" that he uses for every female character and young Faolin are all identical. Like a guy pretending to talk like a girl as a joke. I know its hard for men to do female character voices, but I have heard much better. His diction and pronunciation are lacking, more like a dad reading his kid a bedtime story than a professional narrator. That being said, the story is so compelling, it is easy to look over the sub-par narrating, and you do not notice it after a while. I do not say this to be negative against Erik Davies, but just to submit my opinion in an honest review.

Amazing
Revisado: 09-12-11
I absolutely adore the Inheritance cycle and eagerly await the fourth and final book in the series due this November! I love this audio version, Doyle does a great job with voices and made it easy to forget I was listening to an audiobook, made it seem much more real! Loved it!
