Historia
King George IV is petitioning Parliament for a divorce from his queen on the grounds of her adultery. But rumor has it that the king secretly married Maria Fitzherbert—long before he married the queen. Now Mrs. Fitzherbert has been robbed—and she's frantically calling on Rosalind for help. Because what those thieves took is proof that she and King George did really marry. That single piece of paper could destroy Mrs. Fitzherbert and her family—or it could prove the king guilty of bigamy.

“A White Man”
Revisado: 01-19-25
I like this series set in 1820s upper society London a lot. The need in this latest book to stop the narration and introduce each new male character as “a white man” was both dumb and irritating, PC run amok.

Historia
Olivia Andrews is locally famous for her blog and podcast, Forget Me Not: A Crime Victim’s Storyboard, which is dedicated to telling the stories of victims of crime. Now she has a stunning story to tell about a decades-old murder mystery involving a prominent citizen of Pecan Springs—someone who isn’t the man everybody thinks he is. But she is killed by a hit-and-run driver while she’s out jogging early one morning. Was it an accident—or something else? Her sister wants to know.

Lecturing supersedes story
Revisado: 08-17-24
Always been a favorite author. I love the mysteries and herbal information. But lately I feel lectured to throughout all her books, and not subtly. There is so much negativity and looking down on the locals, hypocritical. When the book descended into snippiness about a minister being a jerk in a grocery about an avocado, I gave up. China Bayles is now pure incessant virtue signaling. Lots of people will like it for that.

Great series

Excellent series, mysteries and characters both. It’s in a time period that is not written about as much, and the descriptions of settings and customs are quite good.

Having lots of trouble with the narration
Revisado: 07-20-22
I have listened to a few hundred Audible books. I’ve listened to and read a lot of Chiaverini novels. A first for me, I may not be able to finish this book on Audible because of the narration. The narrator is speed reading monotone through the book to the point it’s hard to even follow what is going on. . It’s like an school assignment she wants to get done with. The voice changes from character to character are also overdone, and often substituting loud for voice changes.

Historia
Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin are known to all; men like Morgan, Greene, and Wayne are less familiar. Yet the dreams of the politicians and theorists became real only because fighting men were willing to take on the grim, risky, brutal work of war. The soldiers of the American Revolution were a diverse lot: merchants and mechanics, farmers and fishermen, paragons and drunkards. Most were ardent amateurs.

Historia
It’s Labor Day weekend, 1935, and the Darling Dahlias—the garden club in little Darling, Alabama—are trying to keep their cool at the end of a sizzling summer. This isn’t easy, though, since there’s a firebug on the loose in Darling. He—or she!—strikes without apparent rhyme or reason, and things have gotten to the point where nobody feels safe. What’s more, a dangerous hurricane is poised to hurl itself in Darling’s direction, while a hurricane of a different sort is making a whirlwind campaign stop: the much-loved-much-hated senator from Louisiana, Huey P. Long.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 06-18-22
I’ve read the whole series and love the characters and author. In this particular book I got tired of the author using Huey Long as a sledgehammer level metaphor of a political figure she doesn’t like.

Historia
From the time of the Norman Conquest to the present day, the New Forest, along England’s southern coast, has remained an almost mythical place. It is here that Saxon and Norman kings rode forth with their hunting parties, and where William the Conqueror’s son Rufus was mysteriously killed. The mighty oaks of the forest were used to build the ships for Admiral Nelson’s navy, and the fishermen who lived in Christchurch and Lymington helped Sir Francis Drake fight off the Spanish Armada.

Audible Butchered A Great Book
Revisado: 04-09-22
I read The Forest many years ago, it was a great book that deepened my understanding of a period of history and the consequences of religious intolerance. I just purchased this "abridged" version without knowing how badly it was chopped into pieces. The "abridged" Audible version is nothing other than plot points that do not even connect, and has stripped the book of its entire meaning. Do not waste your time , Buy the book. I will return this. If Audible is only capable of providing a butchered version of a great book, it should skip it entirely.

The fall harvest may be just about over, but orchard owner Meg Corey is busier than ever planning her wedding to Seth Chapin. Who knew picking apples would be less work than picking out rings and a dress? And even though the happy couple has invited most of Granford, Massachusetts, to the ceremony, they might have to make room for one more guest....

Readers switched after 8 books
Revisado: 08-13-17
What made the experience of listening to A Gala Event the most enjoyable?
I like the orchard series. A nice low key cozy mystery series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Meg and Seth.
Would you be willing to try another one of Marguerite Gavin’s performances?
I really disliked her performance. Partly because they've had another reader for the first 8 books and the switch is disconcerting. Also because I just don't like her voice. She doesn't sound like I'd anticipate the Meg character to sound. She doesn't even attempt a New England accent for Seth and his family. I have trouble distinguishing the various characters with her read.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I like the series, this was nearly ruined by the reader.
