Historia
This acclaimed best seller from popular historian Alison Weir is a fascinating look at the Tudor family dynasty and its most infamous ruler. The Six Wives of Henry VIII brings to life England’s oft-married monarch and the six wildly different but equally fascinating women who married him. Gripping from the first sentence to the last and loaded with fascinating details, Weir’s rich history is a perfect blend of scholarship and entertainment.

Vivid education
Revisado: 11-08-16
I actually couldn't listen to the very end because it was making me depressed/resentful about our cultural patriarchy! Very good educationally about life in Tudor England but depressing to hear each new wife's story knowing how they would end. It was frightening to be involved with Henry VIII and to be at the mercy of his will. I didn't know marriages to such young girls happened in England, we look down on that kind of thing now.

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

If it's the only book he writes!

I LOVED this book. The narrator was SO good, the humor and fabulous observations about people and emotion, how trauma works and how we deal with our lives at different ages. So many things about this book are great. I may have to buy a hard/back of it to keep as such a great book. Congratulations to Nathan Hill.

Historia
When her father remarries, the honest, innocent Molly Gibson suddenly finds herself with a new stepsister, Cynthia, who is beautiful, worldly and impetuous. This would be more than enough to deal with, but the new wife is the deeply snobbish (and darkly secretive) Hyacinth. Thwarted love, scheming ambition and small-town gossip underlie the warmth, irony and brilliant social observation which link the relationships and the inevitable conflicts as profound change comes to rural England.

New author to me
Revisado: 10-12-16
I thought this book was fantastic, I'd never heard of the author but she's certainly as brilliant as Dickens, Austen or Brontes, if not more. Her character drawings are SO good, the story line and emotional content of story are completely absorbing. When I first started listening I thought the narrator might be a bit hard to listen to, but it's because she was speaking in the voice of a small child... in fact not only did I quickly get used to that understanding but her voices proved to be a big part of how good the book is. Highly recommend especially for women.
